Welcome to FishBaySunsets, a place where interpretive fiber art mixes with the expected, yet unique, in everyday wearables and personal adornments.
Located near Fisherman Bay on Lopez Island in the beautiful San Juan Islands of Washington State, the beauty and textures that surround me are reflected in my work, and speak to the ever-changing drama and subtleties of nature. My shop is all about unique handcrafted works that will take you from casual to elegant, that will tease the imagination.
When my first grandchild was born, and living so far away from her, I began knitting baby clothes. With a world-class knitting shop available to me, and an excellent instructor, I fell in love with swedish baby patterns, and all the intricacies they had to offer. In the course of that, I also discovered a local sheep farm that produced reknown handspun, hand-dyed, bulky yarns in the most amazing colors and textures. For many years, I indulged myself, taking my knitting on the ferry with me when I commuted to work.
Retirement, followed by the discovery of weaving, soon found me with a storefront/open studio in Lopez Village, where FishBaySunsets was born. Along with offering a variety of unique yet basic woven and knitted goods, I created my own style of wearable and decorative art. Often with a more primitive and interpretive look, this unique look became my passion.
Health issues brought my weaving to an end, and now, in the comfort of my home, I devote myself to knitted and handcrafted works. Happily, I found that my weaving designs translate quite well into this world.
Beginning in the Fall of 2012, simple, affordable, yet uniquely FishBaySunsets, wrapped ribbon bracelets and pendants, and most recently, pandora-style cuff bracelets are providing further texture and whimsy to my Etsy shop.
Recently, when I went to visit my mom, I took art yarn! I need small projects, and so spent most of my alone time knitting fingerless mittens, and I am delighted to see how well they integrate into the ebb and flow of my Etsy shop. Color, texture and the unique ... welcome to FishBaySunsets!
