About

Glass, a Girl and a Dream

Once upon a time there was a college girl who wanted a summer job that did not involve jelly or assembly lines. Oh joy! she found the perfect place at a conference center on a lake. She arrived and in two weeks got a crash course in stained glass. Then the conference attendees arrived and she got to teach them this newly learned skill. It was fun-they smiled at their accomplishment and she smiled as she realized that stained glass was something she thrived at. After three summers she graduated from college and received her very own set of stained glass tools.

Time went by and the girl got married, had some children, moved a bunch and only occasionally had time to create. Glass pieces can hurt little baby toes, plus who has time for art after waking up four, five, six times in the night?!

Then, the children got older and the girl learned of this magic place called Etsy. Suddenly a dream of being an artist was re-awakened. A way to be something of her own that did not involve pb sandwiches and finding lost toys. (She loves her children like crazy, don't get me wrong, but sometimes you need to find yourself in the midst of it all!)

A shop was started and slowly grew, as the girl pulled out those old tools (including that same reliable old grinder!) and started dreaming of light and patterns and new creations. She uses mainly the Tiffany style of stained glass, but likes to mix it up a bit with new looks. With art it seems that there really are no rules, so why not try and do something new? Just about everything she makes is based on her own drawing, and because she doesn’t like repeating things, (or maybe gets bored easily?!) almost every bigger piece is the one and only.

As the shop formed and grew, this girl also saw it as a way to give back to the world. She met people who felt the same way and was able to contribute to helping Haiti and the gulf coast after the oil spill. Caring for others is something that drives her and fulfills her, so she also has used her own shop to give to others.

The girl constantly has new ideas and plans for her shop, but not always the time to put it all in motion. There is always room for new and better and different and she strives to balance it all. However, through all the shop building she has learned to embrace the title of artist and enjoy living as someone who can create and still make a pb sandwich on the side. And that means that she is living happily ever after!

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I am happy to do a custom order if it is feasible to create. Don't hesitate to ask, and I can let you know if it is doable. I am happy to work with you on designs and colors, and will do some messaging back and forth with you to make sure you end up with a finished project that you enjoy.

I don't do anything that is copyrighted by someone else (team logos, movie characters etc) and am unable to do large leaded items.

Care instructions

Hang sun catchers on a stable hanger in a window-I would recommend a nail or hook over a suction cup. Outdoor garden art can be outside in the elements, as long as they are brought inside in the winter. (or a strong wind-use your judgement-I have garden stakes that stay out all summer and hold up fine)

Over time the glass and solder can get dusty or tarnished. The glass can be wiped clean with non-ammonia cleaner and a soft cloth. Car wax can also be applied over the piece and then buffed off with a soft rag. This will clean the solder lines and shine the glass as well.

Gift wrapping and packaging

My items are shipped between layers of cardboard, and tied with a raffia ribbon. I am happy to add a note if you are sending the item as a gift. Just send me a message or a note when ordering of what you would like included.

Wholesale availability

I am happy to do wholesale pricing if you are ordering over 10 of an item. My ability to do large orders is limited by time - it is just one person creating, so I can only work so fast. Please ask about wholesale items though and remember to allow extra time for the creating process.

Sizing details

Item size is included in each listing. If you have a question, please ask.
