It was about at 2000 I started to experiment with hand embroidery and beading more devotedly, altering my own clothes and making some accessories to match. I have a background as a goldsmith, working many years with silver and gold to create fine jewellery, so it was like next step for me to experiment with textiles and laces in jewlery making adapting the embroidery techinques and beadwork to create unique combinations for wearables. I've been studying textiles, leatherwork and ceramics in art school, but I love the softness and variety of textile, the possibilities to combine the color and texture. Antique garments, laces and trims are endless source of inspiration. I have collected these precious bits and pieces over ten year for study and to use at my work. The favorite materials to work with are always the natural fibers- silk, cotton, mohair and linen.
My first online gallery was opened at 2004, presenting brooches, necklaces and bags mostly, at the same time I continued to experiment with various techniques (ribbonwork, silk embroidery, freehand embroidery, beading, nuno felting) and mix them into my signature style. Creating wearables feels like painting a picture with threads and beads, all embroidered pieces are the result of the exciting process which I call- intuitive sewing. Intuitive, since many designs are created without any sketches- over the years I have learned to trust my sense of color and the feel of material/texture completely.
My inspiration is carried from flow of dreams and senses,- being mostly intuitive I let the vision of colors and feelings lead me on in creative process. I love to mix techniques/textures and discover subtle color harmonies. Visions are often influenced by the colors of nature, music, poetry and feminine grace of bygone eras.
At collages I have used photos and scans of my original embroideries and photos of people, nature and flowers taken over the years. Some altered details are from my vintage ephemera collection, vintage postcards, antique lace and antique paper/textiles.
