We have hats! Right now, each hat is offered with only a few designs. But I’m adding more regularly, and happily take requests. So if you want our heart > H8 design on a dad hat (rather than the trucker hat shown here, for example), just send me a convo.

About ForestAndOutlaw

Gear and apparel for rule breakers and world changers.

Thoreau once wrote: “Gardening is civil and social, but it wants the vigor and freedom of the forest and the outlaw.”

From this, our name and philosophy are born. Thoreau was lamenting the too-refined English style of gardens that had taken hold in his native New England. He wanted more wilderness and fewer rules. Probably, he wanted to see a few weeds and wildflowers among the crops. He was, we believe, correct. About gardens. But also about society in general. We are all better for "the forest and the outlaw[s]" among us.

And so we take our name from his quote. We embrace the dare-to-be-different forest and the do-it-for-the-greater-good outlaw. Most of all, we celebrate the rule breakers and world changers.

We cheer when someone (or something — like the Mars Opportunity Rover) defies the odds and breaks whatever rules and barriers society had imagined.

We challenge the status quo when it is unjust and push back against those who would hurt others.

We believe “this is how we’ve always done it” is often reason enough to try something new.

Yes. We break the rules. But we are also nice about it.

We hurl love in the face of insult, and use compassion as armor against hatred. We believe a better world is possible, and are not afraid to walk the miles and plant the seeds to bring it into existence. Whenever the opportunity is given, we rise up.

We are activists and feminists and letter-writing, sign-toting rabble rousers. We are science geeks and nature lovers and homesteading, bee-loving gardeners. We shop at farmers markets and local crafts fairs and pick our own apples when the fall air turns crisp.

We are the forest. We are the outlaws. We are the rule breakers and the world changers. Won’t you join us?

Frequently asked questions
Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Yes and no. In other words, it depends. (Read on for more.)

Yes, we accept returns. However, since we make every single item to order, we must charge a 20% restocking fee on all returned items.* The shipping cost is also nonrefundable, and the buyer is responsible for all return shipping costs.

No, we do not accept exchanges for size or color. Please review our size charts to ensure you are ordering the correct size. If you still want a different size or color, you can return your item and purchase another.

*The restocking fee does not apply to returns when the product arrives damaged or otherwise incorrect. In this case, just contact us and provide a few photos of the damaged or incorrect product. We'll make it right at no cost to you.

Can you rush an order? Can you guarantee a delivery time?

Unfortunately, no. Every order is printed on demand. Most ship within 3-5 days, but some can take up to 8 days to prepare for shipment.

Once shipped, orders usually takes another 3-5 days to reach you. But please be aware that this is not a guarantee. Once orders are handed over to the delivery service, they are out of our control and we are not responsible for any delayed or lost shipments. Delays are especially common around the holiday season (and we encourage you to order early for this reason), but can occur at any time of the year.

How do I know what size to order?

We offer a range of apparel for adults and children. Every single listing includes a size chart as the last image. We suggest you review the size chart and compare those measurements with the measurements of a shirt you already own that is a similar style. Simply lay your shirt out flat and measure side-to-side (just below the arms) and top to bottom. Then compare those measurements to the size chart and order accordingly.
