Handcrafted, eco-friendly soy wax candles

Fremont Candle Co. began as a few burned-down candles lying around the house. I (Jen, shop owner) thought it couldn’t be too complicated to find a candle mold and some wicking and re-melt that leftover wax into a new candle. When I started researching supplies, I found that candlemaking is full of possibilities, and totally addictive! Finding the right combination of wax type, wick size, candle diameter, and fragrance is a delicate balancing act, half art and half science.

After almost a year of experimenting with waxes and fragrances, Fremont Candle Co. was born. I’m passionate about creating beautiful candles using the best ingredients. I carefully selected the best, most true-to-life fragrances I could find (initially choosing only 15 out of over 200 fragrances tested). The new Earth & Fire line features exclusively essential oil scents, like eucalyptus, cedar, and lavender; these plant-derived oils smell amazing and are completely natural. I also use eco-friendly, 100% natural soy wax. This renewable resource is domestically grown, and burns longer & cleaner than traditional paraffin!

As a former print designer, I love the chance to get back to my roots designing packaging, labels, and promotional materials. Now I’m a web developer by day, but candlemaking is a great way to unwind and use a different part of my brain. There’s something amazing about making something you can see and touch (and smell!), with your own hands.

I love running Fremont Candle Co., and I hope you find something you love here too! Thanks for stopping by and supporting the handmade community. :)

Additional policies and FAQs
What’s so great about soy wax?

Soy wax is a natural product made from soybeans. It burns longer and cleaner than ordinary paraffin wax, emits less smoke, and is made from a renewable resource.

Are these candles suitable for aromatherapy and massage?

Yes, our new Earth & Fire line is made with 100% natural soy wax and plant-derived essential oils, with no synthetic ingredients of any kind. These environmentally-friendly candles are perfect for aromatherapy and massage. Some essential oils are more suitable than others for direct contact with skin, so please research & choose scents accordingly.

Our original line contains synthetic fragrance oils and should not be used for massage.

Can I re-use the container after my candle has burned down?

Yes! Soy wax is non-toxic and easy to clean. Just run the container through the dishwasher, or clean with soap and hot water.

My candle flame is too big / too small. What should I do?

If your candle flame is large, flickering, and/or smoking, it’s too big - trim the wick down to 1/4” or less until the flame is steady. If the flame is small & sputtering, pour off a little excess melted wax. Always exercise caution, and NEVER leave a burning candle unattended!
