Turning Collecting Into Commerce
Standing in line with other estate sale shoppers early one morning I had a conversation with a woman who said, "For every one thing I bring in, something else must go." This smart idea seemed like a good way to avoid becoming a hoarder while also making a little extra money to fuel my collecting habit. I had just created my blog Piewacket and it seemed like an Etsy shop would be the perfect compliment. So I started my "Fresh Pie" shop a few months later in 2009. Mostly selling my own things so I could make room for new acquisitions.
More recently, I have begun looking for items just to sell as I work to take my little shop to a new level. There is a special kind of thrill when you find something amazing someone else thought was just junk. I go for what I like and am naturally drawn too. I have learned to stick to what I know and use my knowledge of photography, fashion and mid century modern design to good advantage.
I also love unusual vintage photos, some of which I restore and re-print. The "beehive" lady in my office photos, I found here on etsy, a somewhat damaged original from Spain. I re-photographed it and restored it, then had it made into a large canvas. I also offer a few of my own images, some from my vast archives of celebrity photo sessions and other selected in limited editions.
