Announcement   If you're looking for guitar string jewelry, you've come to the right place! Every item I create here is made by hand from guitar strings, and I love creating the items here in my shop. Feel free to have a look around and let me know if you have any questions about the jewelry. (Pst! Take a peak at the acoustic guitar shaped jewelry - those are some of my favorites!)

All of the jewelry is made out of recycled guitar strings (and other instruments, ask for details). A great thing about this is that these strings get used again, which would have otherwise been thrown away. Why toss them out when they can be re-formed into something of beauty? So if your jewelry looks slightly tarnished, it's because it is! It adds an extra uniqueness to each piece.

Here is a handmade wall hanging my sister got me last year for decor in the workshop area. This guy is always playing music, but never helps make jewelry....
Sometimes you need a break and a bowl of ice cream.
Sometimes it's a braided ring order kind of day.

About

How It All Began...And Why I Love It

~~~~ How it all started ~~~~
The dream of creating jewelry out of guitar strings has it's roots in the summer of 2010 when my dad bought me a bracelet made out of a guitar string. Although I had actually discovered the concept about 4 years before, it was only a passing thought at the time. Besides, those 4 years ago I was JUST starting to play the guitar myself, so I hadn't established my love for it yet. Then, in the summer of 2011, I finally had the hankering to sit down and try it out. My dad suggested using solder and gave me some starting ideas, so I started messing around. After creating a messy, gobby bracelet and a couple pairs of earrings that fell apart, I began to refine my jewelry-making skills. And good thing too! Even now when I look back on old pieces that I somehow still have from that first summer, or I look at the first few pictures of my jewelry I took, I'm pleasantly surprised to find that I've refined my jewelry-making artistry over time. Now I look back, wondering how I ever became an "artisan", a "jewelry designer", and an Etsy shop owner.
~~~~ Why I love the jewelry ~~~~
All of the jewelry in my shop, Fret Knot Jewelry, is made out of old guitar (and other instrument) strings from myself and many friends (and family). I create my own designs as well as take custom orders that eventually show up in my shop (so give me an idea and you might get a **little** famous ;-) if I end up adding your idea to my shop!).

There are a bunch of awesome things about upcycling used guitar strings into jewelry.
--1.) One is that they get used again, whereas they otherwise would have gone into a landfill as "garbage". (Why toss them out when they can be re-formed into something beautiful?).
--2.) It also helps keep the cost down for both you - the happy jewelry owner - and me, the designer and owner.
--3.) Since the jewelry and other pieces are made out of recycled strings, they are rich in uniqueness! And not only because it is hand-made, but also because each string has a story to tell. Each one has different wear-marks, has been to different places, and has been played by different musicians. Even a matching set varies, though I make sure the unique wear fits well with the set.
--4.) Fourth, people like having a use for their old strings, so they get "used" twice!
--5.) And lastly, if someone (you or anyone else) passes their strings along to me, I can create the design you purchase out of your own strings! Nifty huh? Just imagine.... Earrings out of your first pair of strings ever, or maybe a wedding necklace made out of the strings off your husband-to-be's guitar!

Frequently asked questions
Do you include a packing receipt with my order?

I do NOT include a paper copy of your receipt with your order. If you would like a paper copy, please request it when you make your purchase. If you need to refer to your order, it's easy to look on Etsy for the receipt.

Will my order take longer to make if I get multiple items?

Orders of several items may take more time to fill, though it doesn't always if it's just a handful of them. I'd love to create a bunch of things for you, but please contact me before purchasing so we can figure out how long it will take for me to complete your order. It'll make it a lot easier for both of us!

Can I have free shipping?

Sure. Purchases in the US of over $50 US dollars ship First Class to you for FREE - my thanks to you!! In order to get this, you'll need to use this coupon code: FREESHIPPINGOVER50.

I'm in a hurry. Can I get my order faster?

Check out the Priority Mail Express option in the item's listing. These items go through the USPS in one (1) day, but please note it does NOT change my processing time. All Fret Knot Jewelry items are made to order, so it still takes me the normal time before I can get your item out.

Can people with metal allergies wear them?

All the earrings hooks I use are silver-plated and hypoallergenic. The jewelry is made of bronze, phosphor bronze, steel, nickel, and other metals. Do not purchase jewelry if you're allergic to any type of metal. I can't and DO NOT guarantee any sort of purity of the metals because of the nature of the strings being recycled. Please note the available "colors" DO NOT necessarily accurately represent what type of metal your item may be. This happens most often with "steel colored" items that may actually be nickel. It is your responsibility to be aware of this. If you prefer a certain type of string please contact me and I'll make my best guess.

How should I take care of my jewelry?

Avoid allowing it to be wet for an extended amount of time and store your jewelry in a sealed container with a few grains of rice to avoid tarnish and rust. Use your favorite jewelry cleaner as needed. With proper care your jewelry should last for years. I still have pieces I wear from when my shop began on Etsy.

Who is the jewelry for?

Everything made by Fret Knot Jewelry (FKJ) and it's affiliates is not intended for anyone under the age of 18 and anyone who is unable to determine when they are in a situation where they need to remove FKJ items from contact or else risk being constricted, restrained, strangled, amputated, punctured, suffocated, choked, strangled, allergically react, burned by heating of FKJ items (or any other means), and/or injured in any other way, by the jewelry and/or other items made by any person of FKJ. There are no safe-guards on FKJ's products nor are they intended as a life-saving device(s). That was fun now, wasn't it?

Should I injure myself/others/items with Fret Knot Jewelry products?

No, because that would hurt. If a piece breaks, dispose of it in a safe manner right away. Fret Knot Jewelry (including anyone affiliated with Fret Knot Jewelry) is NOT responsible for damaged property and/or any death and/or injury that may occur during contact, direct or indirect, with any of Fret Knot Jewelry's products.

Can I have a free pick with your logo on it?

Sure! Just ask when you place your order and I'll include one for you.

What do I do if the thing I'm wondering isn't in the FAQ section?

No worries! Just send me a message and I'll be happy to get back with you as soon as I can.
