Note from shop owner To all my customers thank you for your past support. I will be taking some time off. Look for my reopening in October 2016. Last November I had to turn away customers for Christmas orders. Please consider ordering your Woolie early so you won't be disappointed. With each Woolie I spend much time to detail so I can create your special pet. Please contact me by email if you have any question or concerns. Thank you everyone. frogpondfarmstudio [!at] gmail.com

About

Creating a memory, sculptures in wool.

Hailing from New England, we owned and raised Romney Marsh sheep and all of the beautiful fibre became the start of my woolies. Although the sheep are no longer, My love for these gentle pastoral creatures is reflected through my unique folk art creations called Tin Roof Woolies. Now in the 2nd phase of my life, along with my very old Jack Russell sleeping by my side giving me the inspiration I create each Tin Roof Woolie.. The rewards I reap from these little creations are enormous, how fortunate I am to work at what I love. Being unconventional and self taught in my techniques of needle felting allows me the freedom as a fiber artist to create these life like mini critters. Loving animals has always been a part of my being. Through the years we have had dogs, cats, rabbits, a ferret, horses, cows, pigs and sheep. All have left a little piece of themselves in my heart.
The Design process.
The process begins with the raw fleece from the farm sheered from the sheep, then skirting which means to separate the worthy fleece from the throw away. I wash the wool several times to remove vegetable and other matter. Each fleece must be set out to dry. Once clean and dried the natural color fiber I use for the inner Woolie gets carded. (combing the wool) some fleece goes into the dye pot to get different colors, then carded. For me it is a therapeutic task, one that gives authenticity to my Woolies. I then sculpture each Woolie either using a photo from a customer or my imagination, using a single barbed needle. The needle pokes the wool fiber entwining the fibers till they felt upon themselves a process that takes many many many hours.

Combining my love of animals and wool I began creating needle felted sculptures in 2000. My passion for all creatures great & small gives me insight to create animals & figures of my memories & imagination, along with people's favorite pets.
