Nice to Meet You!

Hi there! My name is Karri and I am the owner and creator of From Shabby to Fabby. When I began this business in 2013 it was from a love of painted furniture.

I grew up just outside of Chicago in a small family with a very tight budget. Whenever I wanted a new piece of furniture, my mom would always suggest we refinish an old piece ourselves and make it look new. When I was young I wanted new things, like my friends had. But as I grew up, and watched her transform pieces, I began to realize that there was nothing quite like old furniture. The history, the craftsmanship … it all made sense to me.

When I bring an old piece of furniture home, I always think about where that piece has traveled and wonder what stories it would tell me if it could talk. Antiques are magical to me and they have the ability to add warmth and character to a home in a way that little else does. Whether it has been handed down for generations in your family or you come across it while shopping, antiques can speak to you and connect you with the past. They tell a story and half the fun, to me, is figuring out what that story was.

I live in the suburbs of Chicago with my three dogs Harper, Lucy, Daisy and my cat, Zander.

My home is my playground. Since I refinish furniture it’s a revolving door of changes but I always gravitate towards the same styles. I call my taste ‘Rustic Bling.” I love a modern home with touches of Vintage, Industrial, French, Farmhouse and Nordic French mixed in. I adore mixing styles, like putting a very distressed Farm Table under a gorgeous chandelier dripping with crystals and gold. I am drawn to old French antiques, chippy wood and anything shiny and full of wonderful prisms.

I dream of living in a big beautiful Farmhouse overlooking the countryside surrounded by hydrangeas and dogs … and good coffee.

Hello and welcome to From Shabby to Fabby. My name is Karri and I am a chronic DIYer, crafty chick, furniture refinisher, obsessive redecorator, thrift store shopper and a roll up your sleeves "I can do that" kinda girl. I find gently loved furniture and refinish it to make it look beautiful again and give it a little sass. I have a store in Winfield, IL that specializes in Farmhouse and French Country home decor with lots of painted furniture using Miss Mustard Seed Milk and Fusion Mineral Paints!

Returns and exchange details
There are no refunds, all sales are final and I'm happy to answer any and all questions you have prior to purchase. You can't ask me too many so ask away! I want you to love what you are getting and any custom work we'll chat about in detail prior to the work beginning as well as regularly throughout the process.
I accept Paypal, Credit Cards and Cash if buying in person. Please pay within 24 hours of buying the product. For custom work I ask for 50% down payment before the work begins and the remaining balance when completed & prior to shipping so shipping rates can be calculated and included, if applicable. If final payment is not received within 14 days of completion and there has been no contact from the buyer after seller attempts, the down payment will not be refunded and From Shabby to Fabby reserves the right to list and sell the finished product to another buyer. Once the work has begun, if an order is cancelled there will be no refund of the 50% down payment. Remember, each custom piece was created just for you (and sometimes bought just for you!) so please be sure you want the custom work done before you order it.
All paint orders are shipped priority mail and will normally arrive in 1-3 days depending on location. Most are shipped same day if received prior to noon CST or next day if not. I do my best to always ship as quickly as possible, I know painters are usually in the middle of a project when they order! There is never a guarantee paint will arrive on time and deliveries tend to be slower during holidays so please consider the extra time when placing your order. For guaranteed delivery, 1 day shipping is available, although very expensive. I will always consolidate orders to reduce shipping costs and proactively refund any shipping overage of $1 or more.

Please note that wax must be shipped parcel post via ground. This is due to the typical volatile nature of wax. While our products are made of beeswax/hemp oil/carnauba wax we still adhere to the USPS law for shipping these products. Wax typically takes about a week to arrive. If wax was ordered with other small items and the delivery time will not increase by more than a day, I may elect to ship all together via ground to save on shipping costs.

If ordering a small item that can be shipped 1st class mail (13oz or less) I will ask your preference prior to shipping as it will add time to the arrival date but tends to cost about half as much as Priority. If I do not hear back from you same day and the delivery time will not increase by more than a day I will elect to ship via 1st Class Mail to save you shipping costs and refund you the difference in shipping.

All paint sales are final so if you have any questions prior to ordering, please reach out. I’m happy to discuss any color choices or which products you will need for your project. I want you to be happy with your purchase and your finished product so don't hesitate to contact me. Of course, you may find that when the color arrives you've changed your mind and prefer a different one. If that's the case, I can exchange a color for you but please understand that the postage expense for both sending it back and delivering the new one must be covered by the customer.

Magazines are shipped Media Mail which is the least expensive but takes about 7-10 days to arrive. Please convo me if you would prefer Priority Shipping and I can set up a custom listing for you.

Paint can also be purchased in my brick and mortar store located at
27W460 Chicago Avenue
Winfield Illinois
Additional policies and FAQs
Most of my items are vintage and some older than others (almost always 20+ years and could be as old as 100!) so as you can imagine they will probably have some signs of wear. They aren't perfect, but who the heck is? They have lots of great character, they usually have some kind of patina, some may have a chip or two..all those lovely things that make them unique and special. A dresser may have dings and while I try my best to sand those imperfections out, if it's a distressed piece and I think it adds to the charm I may leave it there to be admired. I may not be able to sand something if it will lose too much detail so please trust that if it's there, there's a reason! I do make small repairs if needed to ensure the best in quality and durability. If you would like to see any close up's to get a feel for any of these imperfections, please ask and I'll be happy to provide. I always do my absolute best to make my customers happy so please email with any concerns before or after purchase PRIOR to leaving negative feedback. I'm very easy to work with and as you can imagine, a negative comment hurts so please let me try to make something right before leaving a negative word. Thanks!

Frequently asked questions
Can you combine shipping to save me money?

Absolutely, I always combine shipping to save my customers the most money I can! Any shipping average of $1 or more will always be refunded back to the seller.

I forgot to order something, can I add to my order without paying shipping again?

Absolutely! Go ahead and place your second order and be sure to send me a note and let me know. I will refund you the shipping overage once I've packaged your entire order.

Would you be willing to speak with me live about a paint project I'm working on?

You betcha! I will always work with you in a manner that's most comfortable to you in order to ensure that you are completely ready for your project. I can also meet you locally at the shop in Geneva, Illinois if you prefer to talk in person. I can talk about painting all day long so if you need me, I'll be there.

Do you still sell Fusion Mineral Paint? I used to buy from you and now I don't see it in your store anymore

Yes I do! I still carry the full line at WWW.FROMSHABBYTOFABBY.COM Fusion has asked all online retailers to sell the line exclusively from personal web sites so you will find the whole paint line and all the products on my website. Same great service, just a different URL!
