New mom finds solace in reprising graphic design past
In March 2021 I had my first baby, Thad, and going back to work after he was born left me less satisfied than I imagined. It started while I was designing his nursery, finding those perfect pieces to give him the magical Hogwarts room of his dreams (okay, my dreams) but in a little nook above his dresser where I had laid brick wallpaper, something was definitely missing. I hung up a couple pictures and a shelf and called it a day.
Fast forward 6 months, once I was finally in the swing of this whole mom thing (and getting some sleep!) I missed pieces of my former life, which included free time to create. Before Thad was born I opened several Etsy shops and tried my hand at custom jewelry, jewelry organizers, wedding ring frames, wedding themes in a box, wall art prints, and most recently, all natural perfumes (OffbeatScents).
I was balancing work and Thad during the day, and at night I would log onto my computer and start designing what would end up being my first item, The Daily Arbiter Birth Announcement, for that empty spot on the brick wall in his nursery. It was then that I decided to share this piece with the world, and satisfy my craving to create by designing more personalized baby gifts in all different styles and themes to celebrate the life changing magic of starting a family.
One day I hope to pursue Front Page You full time to soak in as much time with Thad while he's young as possible but for now, creating something again provides that much needed reprieve from the craze of the everyday. Thanks for reading!
