Vintage Loving Feltmaker!
I love making things with my hands. Initially, I trained as a potter but discovered felt making on an informal textile course. It offered me all the things that I found most exciting in ceramics, direct physical manipulation (including rolling, throwing – but no dirty finger nails), surface pattern, 3d design, and texture. Felt can be anything you want it to be – it does not work so well as a material for functional kitchen objects, though, unlike ceramics.
I moved from the city to live close to the sea and mountains. Nearby is a beautiful, hilly, woodland walk that is totally inspiring in its sounds, smells, flora and fauna and an excellent calorie burner. Inspiration comes from anything and everything (from Matisse, tattoos, 50’s fabric prints to ‘precious’ junk from charity shops).
My making journey normally starts with a sprint of elaborate chaos (in my head or a sketchbook) but once I’ve caught my breath, (had a cup of tea, played a little tune) I start to simplify and reduce ideas. I love using bright colours and incorporating various felt making techniques within one piece including embroidery, pre-felts and needle felting.
Mainly, I use dyed merino wool because of the softness of its texture when felted. Currently, I am exploring wool dyeing, using the shibori technique, investigating natural dyes and learning how to spin (without a bike and with my feet placed firmly on the ground!)

Additional policies and FAQs
My items are not suitable for small children.
I would recommend dry cleaning items. Otherwise a very light damp cloth only to remove stains in order to avoid shrinking.
