Frequently asked questions

Do you play test your cassettes for audio quality?

I do. I spot-test each and every cassette using high-quality equipment and studio headphones to listen for audio imperfections, dips/drops and warbles.

If the cassette doesn't meet my high audio standards, it's removed from my inventory and sold for arts & crafts purposes.

I received my tape and it doesn't sound good. What do I do?

Although I test each tape for audio quality, playback can vary from player to player. Or, there may be a section on the cassette with poor audio quality that wasn't caught.

If you have issues with any tape, contact me for a hassle-free exchange or refund.

Will you consider a bulk discount rate?

It depends. Prices are firm for each individual item. However, if you plan to purchase 10+ cassettes, I will be open to a fair, agreed-upon discount. This is a common practice of mine for repeat customers as well as high-ticket buyers on other sales channels.

What makes you the expert?

I have inspected more than 200,000 tapes and sold more than 45,000 on a similar sales platform where I am a reputable seller with 100% positive feedback.

I have a rigorous quality control process that includes visual, audio and odor inspections.

I examine the magnetic tape for signs of crystalline/powdery residues, fungus, liquid contamination, edge damage and cinched edges. I ensure that the pressure pad is affixed and well-positioned and that the cassette is free of rust, writing and gouges.

I listen for audio dips, pops, warbles and richness.

I smell for cigarette smoke and mildew.

Cassettes that do not meet a minimum of VG condition get allocated to my arts & crafts tape listing for upcycling (save for the dirty, stinky ones).

Another seller is selling the same tape for less. Why should I buy yours?

The difference between me and many other sellers is that I didn't drag a bunch of tapes out of my basement and list them on Etsy. I have an inventory of more than 25,000 cassettes and personally tested each pre-owned/opened tape using high-quality equipment.

As a buyer and music enthusiast myself, I have purchased more garbage than you can imagine. And it's not because other sellers are lazy, or crooks—most just don't know what to look and listen for. In my experience, most don't even test their cassettes because they don't own a player. Item descriptions and grading are often based solely on visual inspections, at best.

You pay for quality and a 100% guarantee that your tape will work or your money back.
