About

A Cart Shop on Capitol Hill

My name is Gregory Woolston, and I'm a cartographer. Some people are surprised that cartographers still exist: "Hasn't everything already sort of been discovered?" And others seem unsure about what geographers study: "What's the capital of Gabon?" For those unfamiliar, geography examines the why of where, or why places are organized as they are. As a student, I research hegemonic conceptions and alternative perceptions of urban spaces, especially with regard to architecture. My findings always involved maps, so I became interested in cartographic design. This shop marries my interests, and I now offer well-designed studies of specific areas.

With regard to my process, I design all of my maps using QGIS and the Adobe Creative Suite from a studio in the former Pelican Bay Building on Seattle's Capitol Hill. There used to be a large mural titled "City in the Sky" beneath my windows; it featured many cartographic qualities, so I feel inspired here. I produce prints on Red River Paper using an Epson SureColor P800. I mat them with supplies from Blick Art Materials and Matboard and More, and I place them in handmade frames from other Etsy sellers. I ship orders via USPS through their nearby office at 23rd and Union, a unique corner representative of broader changes taking place throughout Seattle.

Please check out all of my maps and feel free to make a request! If you need a map of your own for any purpose, send me a note.

Returns and exchanges
If you have any concerns regarding the quality of a print you purchased, please send me a note. I'm happy to ship you a new print or provide a refund. I'm committed to your experience and will make reasonable adjustments for any customer past, present, or future for as long as I'm in business.
Shipping
All prints are shipped via USPS First-Class or Priority Mail. I package my art in a flat mailer with a piece of cardboard, such that it won't be bent. This usually works well, but every once in a while, a print shows up bent. If this is the case, simply send me a picture and I'll ship you a new print as soon as possible. I appreciate your understanding.

If you require expedited shipping via UPS, please send me a note. I'll make the necessary arrangements and set up a custom order for the extra cost.
