Announcement   Hello Summer, Thank you for finally arriving. In celebration of your arrival, I've decided to make shabby chic summer clothing in your honor. Sincerely Yours, Erin

Welcome to my Garage! I'm Erin and here you will find upcycled, refashioned, repurposed clothing, sustainable fashion, eco friendly apparel (call it what you'd like) all made by yours truly. I love the challenge of remaking. I find it fascinating to take clothing apart and put it back together in a new way or manipulating fabric and testing its limits to discover something unique.

Some of my favorite items to remake are women's tunics from men's dress shirts. Tanks and shirts detailed with recycled fabric scraps. Belts made from repurposed neckties. Recycled antique nails necklaces. The list goes on, so take a look around, you may just find some you can't live without!

What is "upcycling"?
According to Wikipedia "Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value." That is what I do. I take (convert) old clothes (useless products) and make them fashionable again (new materials)!

This is so cute. I love it. I added a necklace extender so it hangs more like a necklace. Or I can take the extender off and have a cool looking tie to wear with suits.

About

Couture from the Garage

Who am I?
I'm Erin. I think of myself as an artist first and then, a fashion designer. The sewing machine, scissors, thread, needle...are my paint brushes. Old clothing, fabric scraps...my canvas. The clothing I create is my art.

I started sewing when I was 12, making clothes from brightly colored prints. Then, when I was 15, I started shopping at thrift stores. Having grown up in a small town, style was limited to what the local mall carried...fast fashion trends which all the girls wore. For me, it was boring. Thrift shops offered me an array of exciting styles, prints, colors...I was like a kid in a candy store.

Fast forward 10 years. By now, I had a career with Nordstrom and during that time, I started to make and sell clothing from upcycled materials and reclaimed fabrics. I would buy a bunch of tshirts at the thrift store, tie dye them, cut them down the front or on the shirt seams and then tie those cuts into cute little bows. I'd make a bunch on the weekends and bring them to work in a vintage, floral print suitcase and sell them to my coworkers for $20 bucks a pop. They LOVED them. (I've sold this style in my etsy shop during the early days. Take a look at my early sales and you will see them...with hearts).

Pondering the meaning of life one day, my husband and I decided to quit our careers, sell our house and car, pack up the kids and move to Lithuania! So here I am.
Being here, I'm able to relax a bit, enjoy and watch my children grow up and design upcycled clothing for you. I am very lucky.

What do I make? Sustainable, eco friendly fashion. I upcycle, repurpose, recycle, refashion (call it what you want) clothing, jewelry and accessories.

Why do I do it? I'm a tree hugger in disguise. I try to live an eco conscious lifestyle. And, simply put...I find upcycling and repurposing to be interesting and challenging. A women's tunic made from a man's dress shirt....come on, that's cool!
