Geeky themed candles, wax melts, and sprays!

Just a girl who loves geeky stuff and making candles!

I started making candles over a year ago and fell in love with it. I started making them as gifts for family members and they liked them so much, I thought I'd start making more. Now I would like to share them with others.

I took candles and my love for geeky things and decided to combine the two, making candle scents a little more fun.

SHOP FAQS & POLICIES

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

We do not accept returns. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I understand that scents can be hard to purchase online since you can't physically smell them. I would suggest purchasing our tea lights to try our new scents before buying larger sizes.

My order arrived damaged. What should I do?

If your order arrives broken from the postal carrier, please send me a message within 3 days of receiving with a picture of your broken candle and we will send you a new one.
Geeky Girl Scents is not responsible for any damages due to melting. Please be aware that candles can melt. If your package is sitting out in the hot sun for hours, your candles may become altered. Please try to have someone or your mail carrier place your packages out of the sun prior to delivery.

Do you ship Internationally?

Currently, we only ship to Canada and Mexico.

My order says Delivered but I did not receive it?

If your order is marked “Delivered,” please check with family and neighbors first to see if they may have received your package by mistake and make sure that the address is correct on the order. Also, sometimes the post office will deliver your package the next day. *Tip: Write a note to your mail carrier and leave it in your mailbox letting them know that your package was marked delivered and you did not receive it. They may be able to help you locate it.

If your order is marked “Delivered” and you cannot locate it, unfortunately I cannot refund or replace your items. The tracking is my proof from the mail carrier that your order has made it to its destination.

I think my order is Lost. What should I do?

If you think your order is lost (tracking is not updating or hasn’t been marked delivered) then I will file a claim with the post office. If the package is found, then it will be sent to you. If the post office does not find it, I will file a missing mail claim. If the claim is approved, I will send out a replacement. Geeky Girl Scents is not responsible for lost orders but I will do my best to make it right.

Returned Items/Rejected/Undeliverable:

If an order has been returned to me as undeliverable due to incorrect address as provided by customer /customer unavailability/customer non-responsiveness, shipping costs for original delivery cannot be refunded. It is the customer’s responsibility to follow tracking as provided by Geeky Girl Scents or to follow up within a timely manner to check on delivery if an item has not been received in the expected time frame following shipment. Undeliverable orders can be re-sent based upon agreement with the customer but new shipping charges are at the customer’s expense. Customer notes regarding delivery preferences (i.e. “call before delivering” or “please leave in mailbox”) do not guarantee that the postal carrier will follow these requests and do not guarantee postage refund if the item is shipped back to me. If the customer has extenuating circumstances under which the package must be delivered, it is the customer’s responsibility to communicate that with the carrier. There is no place on the shipping labels for me to designate delivery instructions to the postal carrier.

Returned items due to incorrect address as provided by customer are not eligible for shipping refunds as this is no error of Geeky Girl Scents. The package can be re-shipped but the customer will have to pay the extra shipping costs so PLEASE make sure your address is correct!

How long does shipping take?

Most orders take within 5-7 business days to ship. Business days are Monday – Friday. During busier times such as the holidays, shipping can take from 7 – 10 business days. Current processing times can be found in the top bar on the homepage of the website.

Please keep in mind that USPS is still struggling due to the Pandemic and budget shortage. Once your package is marked shipped, it is in the hands of the postal carrier and I cannot guarantee delivery dates.

How do you package your orders?

Each item is wrapped in bubble wrap, then wrapped in decorative tissue paper, and sealed with one of our punny stickers.

Tea lights and sprays are heat-sealed in plastic so they do not melt or spill. Tea lights are placed in individual bags. Sprays are wrapped in bubble wrap and tissue paper.

Items are then placed into a box and surrounded by packaging peanuts to help cushion your items and keep them from being damaged in transit.

How much is shipping?

Currently, all US orders are $6.50 to ship and any order over $35 will receive free shipping.

International shipping is based on weight of the package and distance the package will be traveling.

Most orders are shipped via USPS. Large orders are shipped through FedEx.

What is your cancellation policy?

Standard orders can be cancelled by the customer up until an order has been shipped, with certain exceptions. I cannot guarantee an order can be cancelled since often times I do ship quickly. Custom orders that have already been produced/partially produced cannot be cancelled.

I maintain the right to cancel an order at any time, within reason which may include but is not limited to: supply issues, production issues, unexpected/personal issues, cannot come to agreement with customer, harassment issues, etc. The customer will always be notified if I as the manufacturer need to cancel the order and the proper refund will be given.

Do you do custom orders?

Currently I do not do custom candles unless it is for a business or subscription box.

Do you accept Wholesale/Bulk Orders?

Yes! Please allow me 3-4 weeks for large orders so that I may get the supplies needed to make your order. Please contact me directly for more info at geekygirlscents [!at] gmail.com
Pricing varies for wholesale/bulk orders. Please contact me!

CANDLE FAQS

What kind of wax/wicks/fragrance/dyes do you use to make your candles?

The wax I use is a soy/paraffin blend that is about half-and-half in ratio.

The wicks I use are a flat-braided cotton wick free from lead and zinc. Please make sure to trim your wick before every burn to help eliminate carbon buildup, reduce smoking, and from damaging your candle.

Geeky Girl Scents is not responsible for misuse of product.
Fragrances are all high-quality, phthalate free, and adhere to Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) & the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) standards for safety and purity.

Dyes used to color the candles are highly concentrated liquid dyes.

I see that you use glitter/sprinkles in your candles. Is it safe to burn? Is it toxic?

Yes! I do use glitter and sprinkles with my candles. I do not add the glitter directly into the wax. It is simply either sprinkled around the jar or sprinkled on top of the wax.

The glitter is Eco-friendly, non-toxic, and can withstand heat as high as 350 degrees F. I have done tests to make sure that the glitter does not melt or catch on fire. Trust me, it is safe! When you burn your candle, you may notice that there is less glitter on the top. Most of the time the glitter sinks to the bottom of the candle because the glitter is heavier than the wax.

Sprinkles are food grade and will sink to the bottom the more you burn your candle.

There may be some glitter on the wick when you first get your candle that, when lighted, will melt. It is non-toxic. I try my hardest not to get it on the wick but it sometimes does. If you feel it is unsafe, you can easily scrap it off with your fingernail!

Why is the scent not filling my room?

If you feel that your candle is not filling a whole room with fragrance, here are some options to try to help:
Relocate your candle to a smaller room. You’ll be able to smell a candle more in a smaller or more contained room.

Buy a larger candle! The tea lights and 4oz candles MAY fill a room but are not designed to fill a room with scent due to their small size.

Step out of the room and come back in a few minutes later. Your nose gets used to smells over time and you may be adjusting to the scent!

Also note that some fragrances may have a better “cold throw” than “hot throw” meaning you may smell a different balance unlit than when burning. This is totally normal for candles and fragrances due to their balances and performance.

How long should I burn my candle?

Always make sure to trim your wick to a 1/4in every time before you burn your candle.

Never burn a jar candle longer than 4 hours. This can cause the wick to become too long which will cause the flame to be too large. Large flames could cause jars to break.

Tea lights should only burn for 2-3 hours because of their small size.

Always extinguish a candle if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 1/2 inch of wax remains.

How to Burn a Candle Safely:

Before Lighting:
• Before burning, always trim the wick to ¼ inch. You can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or scissors. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning, dripping or flaring.
• Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.
• Always use a candleholder specifically designed for candle use. It should be heat resistant, sturdy, and large enough to contain any drips or melted wax.
Burn candles in a well-ventilated room:
• Avoid drafts, vents or air currents. This will help prevent rapid or uneven burning, sooting, and excessive dripping.
• Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations on burn time and proper use. In general, it is recommended that candles do not burn for longer than four hours and cool for at least two hours before relighting.
• When lighting a candle, use long matches or a long-reach lighter. Keep your hair and loose clothing away from the flame.
While Burning:
• Never leave a candle unattended.
• Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
• Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Do not place lighted candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
• Never touch or move a candle while it is burning or while the wax is liquefied.
• Don’t burn a candle all the way down. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 1/2 inch remains in the container or 2 inches if using a pillar candle.
• Place burning candles at least three inches apart from one another. This is to make sure they don’t melt one another, or create their own drafts that will cause the candles to burn improperly.
• Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before re-lighting.
• Never use a candle as a night light or while you may fall asleep.
• Be very careful if using candles during a power outage. Flashlights and other battery-powered lights are safer sources of light during a power failure. Never use a candle during a power outage to look for things in a closet, or when fueling equipment – such as a lantern or kerosene heater.
When Extinguishing a Candle:
• Use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle. It’s the safest way to prevent hot wax from splattering.
• Never use water to extinguish a candle. Water can cause the hot wax to splatter and might break a glass container.
• Make sure the candle is completely out and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.
• Don’t touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.
• Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax drippings from a glass holder. It might scratch, weaken, or cause the glass to break upon subsequent use.

WAX MELT FAQS

What kind of wax do you use for your wax melts?
We use the same type of wax, Para-Soy, that we use for our candles but is not as soft. This allows you to be able to break off melts easier with no mess.

How many cubes should I add to my melter?

That depends on how strong you’d like your fragrance to be! The more cubes you add, the stronger the fragrance through should be. Please remember that each fragrance is different. Some have stronger throws than others.

Wax Melt Safety Instructions:

To prevent Fire or Injury: Remove packaging before use. Use only in tea light warmers or UL listed electric warmers approved for wax melts. Read and follow all instructions provided with your warmer before use. Do NOT leave melter unattended while in use. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Geeky Girl Scents is not responsible for misuse of product or misuse of the customers wax melt warmer.

Do NOT add water. Do NOT melt on stove top or in non-approved appliances. Use only in well ventilated areas away from flammable materials. Discontinue use if dish contains less than 1/2” of wax.

Frequently asked questions
What kind of wax/wicks/fragrance/dyes do you use to make your candles?

The wax I use is a para-soy blend that holds lots of fragrance and has a wonderful hot and cold throw.

The wicks I use are also all-natural. They are constructed from reinforced ring-spun cotton that burns with a tighter curl for a consistent flame perfect for container candles.

Fragrances are all high-quality, phthalate free, and adhere to Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) & the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) standards for safety and purity.

Dyes used to color the candles are highly concentrated liquid dyes.

I see that you use glitter in your candles. Is it safe to burn? Is it toxic?

Yes! I do use glitter with my candles. However I do not add it directly into the wax. It is simply lined around the jar with a 100% food grade adhesive, corn syrup! I also sprinkle a little on top of the candle.

The glitter is non-toxic and can withstand heat as high as 350 degrees F. I have done tests to make sure that the glitter does not melt or catch on fire. Trust me, it is safe! When you burn your candle, you may notice that there is less glitter on the top. Sometimes the glitter sinks into the candle because the glitter is heavier than the wax.

There may be some glitter on the wick when you first get your candle that, when lighted, will melt. It is non-toxic. I try my hardest not to get it on the wick but it sometimes does.

How can I order custom candles and how much will it cost?

Im sorry! I don’t do custom candles.

Do you do wholesale orders?

Yes I do! I have worked with subscription boxes, retail boutique stores, and authors who have ordered wholesale from me. Just send me here or send me an e-mail at geekygirlscents@gmail.com and we can discuss your wholesale needs!

What about events? I am having a geeky themed wedding/party and want to have custom candles for my special day.

Yes! I do events as well. Just send me a message or e-mail at geekygirlscents@gmail.com and we can discuss your events and needs!

How far in advance do you need to know for wholesale orders?

If you were looking to get a wholesale order of a candle that is already in my shop, I would like 3-4 weeks in advance notice. That way I can make sure I have enough materials in stock! It also depends on how many candles you are ordering. My workspace is small so I can only make so many at a time!

Do you use any animal products in your candles?

Nope! Not a single one :). All candles are vegan-friendly! Many people have asked if the musk used in my scents are animal derived and they are not, they are synthetic. I have personally contacted shops that I get my supplies from to make sure!
