Geeky themed candle scents

Just a girl who loves geeky stuff and making candles!

I started making candles over a year ago and fell in love with it. I started making them as gifts for family members and they liked them so much, I thought I'd start making more. Now I would like to share them with others.

I took candles and my love for geeky things and decided to combine the two, making candle scents a little more fun.

Additional policies and FAQs
Candle Care & Safety Tips:

+ Before burning, always trim the wick to ¼ inch. You can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or scissors. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning, dripping or flaring.
+ Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.
+ Avoid drafts, vents or air currents. This will help prevent rapid or uneven burning, sooting, and excessive dripping.
+ Do not burn a candle for longer than four hours and cool for at least two hours before relighting.

While burning your candle:
+ Never leave a candle unattended.
+ Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
+ Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Do not place lighted candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
+ Never touch or move a candle while it is burning or while the wax is liquefied.
+ Don’t burn a candle all the way down. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 1/2 inch remains in the container or 2 inches if using a pillar candle.
+ Place burning candles at least three inches apart from one another. This is to make sure they don’t melt one another, or create their own drafts that will cause the candles to burn improperly.
+ Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before re-lighting.
+ Never use a candle as a night light or while you may fall asleep.
+ Be very careful if using candles during a power outage. Flashlights and other battery-powered lights are safer sources of light during a power failure. Never use a candle during a power outage to look for things in a closet, or when fueling equipment – such as a lantern or kerosene heater.

When Extinguishing a Candle:

+ Never use water to extinguish a candle. Water can cause the hot wax to splatter and might break a glass container.
+ Make sure the candle is completely out and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.
+ Don’t touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.
+ Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax drippings from a glass holder. It might scratch, weaken, or cause the glass to break upon subsequent use.

Follow all of these tips to have a healthy, long-burning candle!

Frequently asked questions
What kind of wax/wicks/fragrance/dyes do you use to make your candles?

The wax I use is a para-soy blend that holds lots of fragrance and has a wonderful hot and cold throw.

The wicks I use are also all-natural. They are constructed from reinforced ring-spun cotton that burns with a tighter curl for a consistent flame perfect for container candles.

Fragrances are all high-quality, phthalate free, and adhere to Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) & the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) standards for safety and purity.

Dyes used to color the candles are highly concentrated liquid dyes.

I see that you use glitter in your candles. Is it safe to burn? Is it toxic?

Yes! I do use glitter with my candles. However I do not add it directly into the wax. It is simply lined around the jar with a 100% food grade adhesive, corn syrup! I also sprinkle a little on top of the candle.

The glitter is non-toxic and can withstand heat as high as 350 degrees F. I have done tests to make sure that the glitter does not melt or catch on fire. Trust me, it is safe! When you burn your candle, you may notice that there is less glitter on the top. Sometimes the glitter sinks into the candle because the glitter is heavier than the wax.

There may be some glitter on the wick when you first get your candle that, when lighted, will melt. It is non-toxic. I try my hardest not to get it on the wick but it sometimes does.

How can I order custom candles and how much will it cost?

Simply send me a message on Etsy, click the Custom Request button on the main page of my shop, or e-mail me at geekygirlscents@gmail.com with what you want to get and I will message you back as soon as possible. Cost will vary depending on what you want and how many candles you will be ordering.

Do you do wholesale orders?

Yes I do! I have worked with subscription boxes, retail boutique stores, and authors who have ordered wholesale from me. Just send me here or send me an e-mail at geekygirlscents@gmail.com and we can discuss your wholesale needs!

What about events? I am having a geeky themed wedding/party and want to have custom candles for my special day.

Yes! I do events as well. Just send me a message or e-mail at geekygirlscents@gmail.com and we can discuss your events and needs!

How far in advance do you need to know for custom/wholesale orders?

I would prefer custom orders be 2-3 weeks in advance. That way I have time to design your candle and have them made and shipped out.

If you were looking to get a wholesale order of a candle that is already in my shop, I would like 1 - 2 weeks in advance notice. It also depends on how many candles you are ordering. My workspace is small so I can only make so many at a time!

Do you use any animal products in your candles?

Nope! Not a single one :). All candles are vegan-friendly! Many people have asked if the musk used in my scents are animal derived and they are not, they are synthetic. I have personally contacted shops that I get my supplies from to make sure!
