Cutting steps taken to produce a precious stone from the rough
I was nine years old when my Mother bought me a rock tumbler for my birthday. Fascinated by the finished stones the lines color and transparency intrigued me.
I started reading every book I could find on the subject of lapidary and faceting. With my Fathers help we built two machines the first was a cabochon machine. Several years later we built my first diamond cutting bench which we were spinning at 12 inch cast iron lap at 3450 RPM. Forty years later I am still intrigued by the transformation of rough to precious gem.
