About

Gary Chase - Owner/Designer

Gary Lee Chase's lifelong career first began as a hobby. In 1972, a young and curious Gary learned to cut stones such as opals and jade.

Gary quickly perfected his craft and by 1975, he learned to hand fabricate jewelry pieces for the gemstones he cut. For the next few years, Gary sold his gemstones and jewelry to jewelry stores and exhibited his work at various jewelry shows and craft fairs all across the country.

Between 1979 and 1982, Gary educated himself at the Gemological Institute of America and earned the title of Graduate Gemologist. During this time various people employed him as their personal gemstone buyer.

In addition to a love for gemstones, Gary continued to expand on his jewelry making skills. His reputation as a skilled craftsman and excellent jewelry worker grew. Before long, Gary was working in his own trade shop as a custom design specialist and jewelry repair craftsman for various different designer jewelry stores all over the Silicon Valley. After a few years of this, Gary decided to move on to his next adventure.

In 1990, Gary opened his retail store, Gembrokers, in downtown Santa Cruz, CA. Santa Cruz customers were thrilled to have a jewelry store that was geared toward custom work, and business was good. Gary has built up a loyal customer base over the years and through his excellent reputation in the industry, Gembrokers has continued to grow.

2004 brought about changes when Gembrokers expanded and moved into a larger location. Here, Gary and his highly trained staff were able to showcase Gembrokers' entire collection of traditional and new style jewelry in an elegant and comfortable showroom with an on site expansive jewelry workshop.

In 2014, after 40 years in the jewelry business, Gary decided he wanted to semi-retire. He closed the retail store and relocated the jewelry studio to Ben Lomond where he is concentrating on custom designs. He continues to provide services for custom jewelry design, repairs, sales, and appraisals. You can contact Gary at his new studio phone number, 831-609-6644, or via email: "gary@gembrokers.com" with questions or to schedule an appointment.
