Sally J Goodrich uses acrylic and gouache paint to create colorful, sometimes, serene, sometimes lively landscapes and florals. Inspired by the beautiful blue ridge mountains of the Roanoke Valley and many summers spent in the Black Mountains of Asheville, NC, her landscapes are lush, vibrant and friendly.


She paints small landscapes with gouache every single day and you can see them posted on her Instagram account http://www.instagram.com/sallyjgoodrich These paintings require her to use quick brushstrokes to capture the feeling of the moment. She particularly likes to paint a neighborhood bridge over a creek that runs through the town of Salem, VA Her other favorite subjects are the public golf course at the end of her street and a path through the woods that she regularly takes on her daily walks. Of course she takes inspiration from Monet - who doesn’t?


Some of the gouaches inspire larger acrylic paintings. On canvas she loves to reinterpret these little drawings into larger, more dramatic scenes. The color is more vibrant, the details are more detailed and the strokes more loose. Other times her landscapes are inspired by photos taken near her home and travels around the area. She loves to represent the beauty and ever changing colors of even the most plain outstretched field.


Her florals consist of familiar flowers usually in ginger jars, painted with blue chinoiserie figures. She takes ample liberties with color and tries to create her best impressionist/fauve or fauve/impressionist style of work. Hydrangeas are her favorite but all native flowers (and a few imagined) can make an appearance in these lush loose arrangements.
