Announcement    The mission of Give A Dog A Home is to help homeless dogs get adopted. Dogs in jackets have positive connotations of being working dogs, loved pets, and just plain cute! Thank you for helping dogs find responsible and loving owners and a place to call home.

A trained dog is a loved dog, which is why so many untrained dogs end up in shelters. I offer treat pouches (my own design, which I tested and perfected based on my daily dog walks) and training jackets, to help dog guardians work more comfortably with their dogs in public. The jackets also help educate others on how to be supportive of dogs with issues, whether they be medical or behavioral. A little clear direction goes a long way in building respect and understanding, which goes for both canines and humans!

What Every Dog Needs

Give A Dog A Home is the perfect blend of my extensive sewing ability, graphic design experience, and love for dogs.

I volunteer at my local shelter where I walk and help train dogs. And I am honored to be a part of your rescue efforts as well, with each dog adoption jacket I make. My hope is that each jacket will represent at least one dog, if not multiple dogs, getting a new life with a loving family, a soft bed to lay upon, daily walks, high quality diet, and proper vet care. I don't think that's too much to hope for--do you?

Additional policies and FAQs

TIPS FOR JACKET USE - Because most dogs have not been introduced to wearing a jacket, make sure to put it on slowly, offering a treat when you're putting the jacket on the dog, to create positive associations.

Allow the dog to relieve himself/herself first, to avoid possible soiling.

I recommend walking an unfamiliar dog a couple times before using the jacket. After all, you don't really want to advertise a dog that's pulling you down the street or lunging at every passerby! Make sure the dog knows you, is comfortable with you, and is under control before you let everyone knows he/she is available.

JACKET CARE - Machine wash with cold water, remove promptly and air dry. Touch up any wrinkles with an iron, but avoid touching the webbing and vinyl letters, which will melt if heated.

If the webbing straps are too long, you can cut the ends with scissors. Reseal the end of the webbing to keep it from fraying by touching the end to a flame for 1-2 seconds. (You can use a match, lighter or flame from gas stove.)

I have tested the integrity of the vinyl letters by washing a sample jacket multiple times, and the letters have not budged. BUT if you should ever have a letter fall off, please contact me. I would be happy to repair it for you at no charge.
