GladCalligraphy—Beyond Lettering

Advance, North Carolina | 872 Sales

Announcement    It’s a celebration of lettering...your go-to place for special days--

seasonal holidays, birthday, wedding, graduation, congratulations, baptism, confirmation, sympathy, or "just a friend" gift...

or a gift for yourself. If you love letters--and inspiration!

GladCalligraphy creates original designs for any occasion.

I use quality watercolor paper for custom work and often for prints, but sometimes I go with non-textured paper in order to produce the best clarity and color.

Be assured that if you order a custom design, you will receive original artwork on quality paper.

Everything you see in my shop is original. I love enhancing pen work with watercolor or nifty colored pens.

Each order deserves my best.

Fresh watercolor is applied to prints that before sending them off to you so each one becomes "original"--and can be customized for a personal touch.

The "sparkle" on the notecards is added by hand.

My goal is to honor this incredible art form by improving my hand, pen and brush.

PRINTS are most often offered in 5x7, 8x10, and 11x14 to make framing convenient. Other sizes may be available by request.

9x12 prints and larger are shipped priority USPS with tracking.

I Love to Tell the Story

I've always loved "once upon a time" stories with happy endings. Once upon a time in December of 2011 two special ladies, my sweet food blogger daughter-in-law Nikki Gladd (Seeded at the Table) and Etsy shopkeeper and friend Tammy Willis (Kandy Kettle Kitchen) encouraged me to start an Etsy shop with my calligraphy. So I took the plunge into Etsy's wild world of awesomely talented and genuinely gracious shopkeepers who keep expanding my notion of Art.

Thank you, Nikki and Tammy!

The early chapters of my calligraphy skills sat on the back burner for years--

between teaching school, rearing three amazing sons, and keeping on the road with my sportsman-of-all-trades-husband, I used calligraphy to do "favors" for my friends and family—mats for framed pictures, wedding envelopes, wedding vows, birthday and anniversary messages in scrapbooks, special poems, the list goes on...

Finally I plunged into scripting texts like "Build Me A Son", a prayer by General Douglas MacArthur. Over the course of two snowbound weeks in 2010, I toted a humungus-sized pen and watercolor design to a printer, and the rest is history. “Grow Me A Daughter" was written as a companion prayer for girls.

It's been fun to grow my shop to over fifty designs since then.

Honing skills is important to me....and that means taking classes and practicing. I am a member of the Carolina Lettering Arts Society and Associated Artists of Winston Salem and participate in art shows throughout the year in this terrific art community.

I offer personalized, custom touches to any of the prints or start-from-scratch custom jobs.

Any "print" I send out has fresh watercolors applied before it's shipped, so it comes to you as close to an original as possible.

My forte these days is commission pieces, large and small. So exciting to get something new on my desk.

I do a LOT of Scripture verses because within those verses unfolds my story of finding redemption--forgiveness, freedom, purpose, strength, all in Christ...and I trust Him for contacts and friendships in life and on Etsy. The joy of the story is in its telling...one project at a time...one day at a time...one friend at a time.

I would be honored to have you stop by my shop and stay a while...and share a bit of your story with me.

I run my business from a little art studio in my home featuring my most important tools...drafting table, steel nibbed pens, Japanese Sumi ink, watercolors, lots of calligraphy books, drawing pencils and Winston Newton brushes.

It is important to me to surprise you with the beauty of the work whether it be a notecard or a custom order. I work hard to improve my skills and designs.

My goal is to ship out your order within 24 hours via USPS unless another form of shipment is specifically requested or unless it is a custom order which takes more time.

As the artist, I own the designs, including the ones for custom orders; therefore I trust my customers to treat this property ethically. Several designs are copyrighted with the Library of Congress.

Returns and exchanges
I aim to please the customer in every way. If a refund is in order, we will take care of that promptly.

No refunds on custom orders once the order enters its final draft stage, a process that you and I discuss along the way.
Payment
Buyers pay through the Etsy website. Orders may be refunded in full if a request to cancel is received before I start working on the project at which point a partial refund is in order, depending on how much time I have invested.
Shipping
I ship first class USPS for anything 8 1/2 x 11 or smaller and priority USPS for anything larger. A refund will be offered for over postage of $1.00 or more.
Additional policies and FAQs
I do lots of custom orders. These designs are not designed to see how quickly I can get them done—instead, as many drafts as are necessary are employed until the piece is what it needs to be. I take a lot of pride in what I give you. You get the original.

At that point I own the design with the option of making copies for sale unless your design is personalized.
Privacy
Your personal information does not go beyond what is written on the order and is not shared under any circumstance for any reason.
