About

Berries speak to us of abundance and healthy pleasures.

I adore berries. I like to look at them, touch them, smell them, eat them. I wanted to be able to wear them and decorate with them too! Since I also love glass and work with it as my favorite art medium, it seemed logical to make berries out of glass. Simple, right? Until I discovered that nobody in the world was making lifelike berries out of glass. I couldn't find anyone to teach me so I had to figure out how on my own. It took awhile.

After many, many attempts I managed to make the first glass raspberry that looked real. I made several more glass raspberries, strung them on a wire and wore them as a necklace. When people stopped me in the street to ask how I kept the raspberries from staining my blouse I knew I was on the right track. Since then I have taught myself to make many other berry varieties and have developed them into a line of jewelry. The jewelry and the glass berry sculptures are sold in galleries around the country, and have found homes with other berry lovers as far away as Moscow and South Africa.

I discovered that, like me, most people have some happy childhood memories of berry picking. Whether it was blackberries, blueberries or gooseberries, we all remember the heat of the sun, the sticky fingers, the smell of the warm berries and the incredible explosions of taste that made all the mosquito bites and thorn scratches worthwhile. Many of us also associate those memories with lost family members. Because I picked blueberries with my beloved Nana, they will always make me think of her.

Even people who weren’t privileged to go berry picking when they were young love the sensual appeal of berries – their brilliant colors, luscious shiny or velvety skins, tastes and fragrances. Berries speak to us of abundance and healthy pleasures. I want my glass berries to capture some of those pleasures in permanent form so you can be reminded of them whenever you see my work.

My happiest childhood memories are of picking berries and apples in the woods, fields and orchards around our New Hampshire home. I want my glass beads and jewelry to give you a permanent reminder of your own sweetest summer days.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I welcome custom orders! Feel free to contact me any time with your request. I am not able to personalize orders at this time.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All orders are shipped in gift packaging. For jewelry and most small sculptures, the items are carefully packed in natural white cotton inside a shiny black paper gift box with a gold bow. Larger items such sculptures may be shipped in white paper or wooden gift boxes.

Care instructions

You may clean any of my jewelry designs using the mild jewelry-cleaning liquid that's available in most department stores. First immerse the jewelry piece in plain water, then dip a soft toothbrush into the fluid and scrub lightly, paying special attention to any tarnished surfaces. Then rinse, rinse, rinse, being sure to remove all traces of red fluid or suds from inside the bead holes of any crystals, where they might leave behind a cloudy haze. You may also safely use any of the dry silver polishing cloths that are available at jewelry stores or on the internet to clean any sterling silver parts that can be easily reached.

Metal Allergies, Nickel

I make my jewelry with 925 Sterling Silver, Argentium Silver, and 14/20 yellow Gold-Filled. None of these contain nickel.

If I should ever make anything with nickel content, it will be plainly marked in both the Materials and listing Description.

If you are unable to wear something I make because it irritates your skin, you may return it to me in good condition for a refund of the purchase price. Just try it out, and let me know within 14 days of receiving the jewelry if there is a problem.

I would also be happy to custom-make a piece for you in the metal of your choice that you know to be safe for you.

About Gold Filled Jewelry

Gold-Filled materials are quality materials that can be expected to last a lifetime. I use 14/20 gold-filled, which is made by using extreme pressure and heat to bond a sheet of 14 karat gold over a brass base. The resulting product is a wire or tube in which the gold layer represents 1/20th of the volume of the piece. This material is then formed into chain and other jewelry findings that are strong, durable, and resistant to tarnish.

The gold layer of gold-filled materials is many, many times thicker than the coating on gold-plated or “gold vermeil” materials. As a result you can expect to wear and enjoy your gold-filled jewelry for many years without worry of having the gold layer wear through.

More Customs and VAT Information for International Buyers

Your international shipment may be subject to import or value added taxes, customs duties and delivery fees which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. For example, VAT will usually be charged on goods entering the EU from the United States if their value is greater than 15 euros.

EXCEPT FOR SHIPMENTS TO AUSTRALIA, ETSY DOES NOT COLLECT THESE TAXES AND FEES - they must be paid by you when you collect your package from Customs.

See below for more information on how Etsy collects taxes for shipments to Australia.

And see below for more information regarding "Gift" shipments.

Please contact your local customs office for further information.

About International "Gift" Shipments

When a non-US customer is buying a gift for someone else, she often misunderstands that to mean that I can properly mark her international shipment as a Gift. But the customs rules do not apply to what will happen to the package after it is received.

The customs rules only apply to the relationship and transaction between me (the seller) and you (the buyer). Since I will be receiving payment for the work I send overseas, to comply with the law I must mark the package as Merchandise (not as a Gift) and list the full amount paid on the the attached documents. To do otherwise risks criminal penalties for us both. Therefore, regular import costs will be charged on the full value of any order shipped from the US into another country.

Etsy collects Sales Tax for all orders shipping to Washington and Pennsylvania.

Based on new Washington and Pennsylvania State tax laws, Etsy now automatically calculates, collects, and remits sales tax for ALL orders shipped to addresses in Washington State and Pennsylvania.

This new law applies to orders being shipped from other US states into Washington, and even to orders being shipped from other Countries into Washington State.

Sellers cannot opt out of this procedure.

No action is required on your part.

GST is added to all orders shipped to Australia starting July 1, 2018

Based on new Australian import tax laws, beginning on July 1, 2018 Etsy will automatically calculate GST tax for all orders valued less than $,1000 Australian dollars that are shipped from my shop to buyers in Australia.

Etsy will collect this tax from buyers during the checkout process and remit the funds directly to the Australian tax authorities.

Neither Sellers nor Buyers can opt out of this procedure.

No action is required on your part.
