After years of caregiving, I found my joy!
Sempre fui criativo e artístico, mas tive que colocar minhas necessidades de criação em segundo plano quando comecei a cuidar da minha linda mãe 24 horas por dia, 7 dias por semana. Saí do mercado de trabalho e meu foco começou nas necessidades dela como paciente de Alzheimer, vítima de um derrame. Foi o trabalho mais difícil que já tive, mas o mais gratificante. Houve alguns dias muito sombrios no mundo do cuidado. Não houve tempo para criatividade.
Perdi minha mãe em 2019. Quando a perdi, perdi o foco constante que mantive durante anos. Eu me vi andando em meio a uma neblina enquanto lamentava sua morte. Demorou muito para recuperar meu encanto e pensar no que eu precisava. Foi quando um amigo meu me presenteou com alguns materiais de mosaico. As caixas de tesselas, tintas e ferramentas ficaram na minha garagem por cerca de três meses. Um dia, tirei-os e comecei a mexer na arte do mosaico. Logo descobri que havia encontrado minha alegria.
Aproveitei essa alegria e abri minha loja Etsy. Não consigo explicar o quão gratificante é embrulhar uma de minhas obras de arte e enviá-la a um cliente. É como embrulhar um pedaço de mim e compartilhá-lo. Sempre fui aquela pessoa que apoia os pequenos negócios da minha comunidade e agora tenho o meu próprio pequeno negócio. I have always been creative and artistic, but I had to place my needs to create in the background when I began to take care of my beautiful mother 24/7. I left the workforce and my focus began on what her needs were as an Alzheimer's patient, challenged with a stroke. It was the hardest job I ever held, but the most rewarding. There were some very dark days in the world of caregiving. There was no time for any creativity.
I lost my mom in 2019. When I lost her, I lost the one constant focus I had held for years. I found myself walking around in a fog as I grieved her passing. It took a lot of time to get my mojo back, and to think about what I needed. That's when a friend of mine gifted me some mosaic supplies. The boxes of tesserae, paint and tools sat in my garage for about three months. One day, I pulled them out and began tinkering with the art of mosaic. I soon learned that I had found my joy.
I took that joy and opened my Etsy shop. I cannot explain how rewarding it is to wrap up one of my works of art and send it off to a client. It is like wrapping up a piece of me and sharing it. I have always been that person that supports small businesses in my community, and now, I have my own small business. I certainly appreciate all the interest and support in my work.
