My fabric arrived and it was so gorgeous in person but I love the seller more. Got a quick message right after I purchased and the seller also took note of my store. I appreciate that level of attention. My fabric arrived well and in an extra layer of packaging than the normal mail wrap. Thank you! I'll be buying again.

About

Art of the Cloth (n.) - the love and appreciation for texile designs

I love textiles! From fabric to wallpaper... it's all very intriguing.

I think that you should trust that I've chosen materials of great quality to share with you. I like things that tell a story, but most of all I love color! When I'm trying to decide which textiles to offer to you I ponder the following: Who designed this print? Where are they from? What was their inspiration? How was the color palette developed? Do they trust me with their work? I am not always able to purchase my inventory in person, but most pieces that come from afar have been consistently purchased from the same manufacturer for a while now. While other pieces in the shop that have come from overseas have been chosen by people who are just as knowledgeable about fabric as I am. In fact, most people who are in my circle are artisans and/or purveyors, as well. Trust that we know and understand what we are doing when it comes to operating a shop such as this.

My mother introduced me to the world of African Fabrics, to be exact, many moons ago. Most of the pieces tell a story on the fabric itself. In addition, the prints can be so elaborate and mesmerizing that most of us who appreciate and collect them find it hard to cut them for use. I don't think that there is enough interest in this area of textile design. I am doing my part by introducing and sharing my collection with you. Many of the pieces have been hand-picked by family and/or friends, but mostly by myself (in person, online and/or via a fellow "expert"). Hope you enjoy!!!

You will see a pic of my "3 lil birds". They are the other joys in my life, besides curating ethnic textiles. I share with them stories of each piece of fabric that is brought into the house. Most of the tales are creations of our vivid imaginations as they are fruit that have not fallen far from their mother's creative tree. I hope that they will continue this legacy that is surrounding them. I hope that they, too, will continue to find ethnic textiles to be some of the most beautiful and intriguing works of art ever to be created on this earth. Thus, I am raising them in the way they should go: embodying a spirit that appreciates the ways, work, imagination and fruits of other cultures. Also, they work with me in presenting your purchases to you. If your shipping label has a smudge and/or is put on crooked . It is because they are my little "mail ladies" (a moniker given to them by them!) and they love packaging orders with me. My husband is the occasional helper, as well. Not only did he encourage me to start my company and pursue my interests, he has had to re-fold, iron and/or cut inventory a time or two. We pride ourselves on having a small family business and we are enjoying this adventure together.

If you're wondering about my other interests in craft projects, well they do tend to change quite frequently. Amongst all things creative, lately I am intrigued by textile design and graphic design. In addition to those things, here are my other skills and interests: scenic design and painting; costume history and design, history of art, fashion and interiors; wallpaper design; graphic art; diy, upholstery and refurbishing; gawking at antiques and most important Motherhood!

Thanks for visiting our store! I operate a cut-to-order shoppe; meaning that most pieces aren't cut until your payment is processed. The exceptions are pre-cut fat quarters which are a rare find in the world of Ankara prints. Other exceptions: end of bolt, remnant pieces, scrap bags, etc..

Orders for multiple yardages of the same print are cut as a CONTINUOUS piece.

BUSINESS HOURS: I only do business between the hours of 5 pm-11 pm M-F, EST and rarely on weekends and holidays. If you place your order during any time that my shop is closed, it will be processed as being placed the next operating business day. Then it gets put in line with other orders. When more than one order is received on the same day that means that I then consider the times the orders were placed (when applicable). This helps when deciding the sequence in which items get cut and packaged.

If I just so happen to work on business-related things outside of normal hours, trust that that was a rare moment as my family deserves most of my time.

PAYMENT: Although we take Paypal, you do not need a Paypal account to purchase. Paypal can process your credit card without a Paypal account. Just follow directions for checking out. You will still be taken to the Paypal checkout page, but you will have the option to use your credit card or bank transfer instead. Echeck payments are not honored until they are processed by Paypal. Using the echeck option means that your order may not be cut for another 5-10 business days after you initiate payment per Paypal's timeline.

HOW FAST CAN I EXPECT MY ORDER TO BE COMPLETED?

An order is not necessarily cut or processed as soon as I receive it because their may be orders that were received before yours. In all fairness, I process requests in the order which they were paid, but all is promised in a timely manner. If you need something within a certain time frame, we should discuss the options BEFORE you place your order. I want to be sure that I can meet your needs. If I need to communicate with you that your order is an extenuating circumstance, then I will do so, immediately.

*Time frames are subject to change and may fluctuate for "custom" orders and/or during busier times/holidays. See shop home page for any turnaround time changes. Shop notices posted on my Etsy homepage will supersede the time lines set forth in the listings*

*** In some cases, there will be scrap bags, end of bolts and grab bags listed, as well. As a designer/artisan I understand our quirky needs. If your project calls for a measurement not listed (say your project calls for 32"), I suggest you round up to the nearest whole cut (in this case 36" or (2) half yard increments). Read each item's description carefully for more details. If there's any confusion, please contact me for further explanation.***

You are appreciated!

Shipping
You are being charged a shipping and handling fee.

I ship via USPS. If you need something quickly, you can convo me or mention it in the buyer notes. I will send a separate Paypal invoice for the additional postage.

Please understand that all shipping costs are merely an estimate. We could inflate shipping costs, but we are not a fan of that practice. We like to accurately configure shipping after your order is processed. If you are initially overcharged, we will reimburse the difference via your original payment method. If you are undercharged, we will notify you and/or invoice for the difference. We appreciate your patience and your purchase!

*****Postal rates have increased tremendously; especially international shipping rates! Subsequently, we do ship internationally, but you must ask for a quote via a convo, first. Make sure your message includes all of the items you are interested in (by link or name), quantities of each item and your mailing address. If you need your order quickly, please include that information, as well.*****

I always use Delivery Confirmation and/or Tracking Numbers when possible.
Refunds and Exchanges
Refunds/exchanges will be handled on a case by case basis. Please do not hesitate to contact me before returning items. Do not return an item before speaking with me.

If a refund/exchange is granted, item(s) must be returned within 7 business days.

Please understand that I can't possibly guarantee the vibrancy of fabric as no two computer monitors will display color, tone and/or shade at the same degree.

***Custom cuts/requests are not returnable or refundable.

***Sale/Clearance items can be exchanged for store credit ONLY.***

PDF patterns are not returnable or refundable.

Fabric accessories are guaranteed for workmanship. If you have trouble with an item contact me so we can work it out.

Vintage patterns come from various places and are in various conditions which I take great pains to note in their description. Occasionally, something might slip by me. If you have a problem, please contact me so we can work something out.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please understand that I can't possibly guarantee the vibrancy of fabric as no two computer monitors will display color, tone and/or shade to the same degree. In addition, I do my best to describe the hand, texture, weight of the textile, but unless you are familiar with technical definitions used in the textile industry, some terms can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. Sometimes, those descriptive words are hard to explain, but remember I, too, am a creative spirit that uses what I sell. If I missed anything, or if you have more questions, send an email.

Thanks for visiting!
