Mi nombre es Marina y soy la creadora detrás de Luna + Saya.
Comencé Luna + Saya como un medio para expresarme artísticamente y encontrar satisfacción en mi vida. Febrero de 2016 fue cuando comenzó la idea de tener un negocio que pudiera llamar mío. Estaba pasando por un período difícil en mi trabajo de tiempo completo. Se había vuelto muy monótono y no podía verme haciendo algo que me mantuviera alejado de la creación. Me encantaban las joyas y sabía que quería crear piezas únicas y divertidas. Recurrí a YouTube para obtener tutoriales, ya que sabía muy poco en relación con la fabricación de joyas. A través de mi gran cantidad de videos, me topé con uno que tenía arcilla polimérica. A partir de ahí, supe que el cielo era el límite de lo que podía crear. La arcilla polimérica es un medio tan versátil que permite tanta creatividad. Jugué con diferentes estilos hasta que me enamoré del estilo moderno y contemporáneo que ves en mis joyas ahora.
Actualmente dirijo un espectáculo de una sola mujer, esto significa tomar la mayoría de mis fotos, diseñar, crear, hacer, hornear, lijar y empaquetar todo mi trabajo mientras trabajo a tiempo completo (por ahora, ja). Es una gran dedicación, pero me parece más que gratificante cuando veo los productos finales. Es una descarga de emoción y adrenalina que da vida a mi visión.
Mi nombre comercial, "Luna + Saya" tiene un significado muy profundo que es muy querido para mi corazón. La palabra "Luna" es español para "luna". También es uno de mis apellidos, Luna es el apellido de soltera de mi madre por parte paterna. Mi madre ha jugado un papel vital en el desarrollo de mí en la mujer que soy hoy y esta fue una forma de rendirle homenaje. Ella es un alma increíble y una guerrera absoluta. No crecimos con riquezas, pero su amor incondicional era mucho más rico que cualquier posesión material que pudiera haber pedido. Ella enseñó a ser amable, amorosa, humilde y, al conocer a alguien, a asegurarse siempre de haber tocado su vida de una manera positiva. No hay nada que no haría por mi madre.
Luna es una palabra energética y poderosamente cargada, ya que representa las energías de la luna. Soy una persona espiritual y creo profundamente en el poder y la energía que la luna proporciona a todos los seres de la tierra. La luna también simboliza el renacimiento y el cambio, lo vemos a lo largo de sus ocho fases. Esto representa espacio para el crecimiento continuo y el cambio en la humanidad a medida que evolucionamos.
La palabra "Saya" (pronunciado SIE-YAH) fue una palabra que encontré mientras buscaba otro nombre para incluir en mi negocio. Saya es una palabra que representa las emociones y valores que busco retratar en mi vida cotidiana, no solo en mi negocio. En japonés, "Saya" es un símbolo de paz. En turco, significa ser sincero y honesto. ¡En el idioma tagalo, significa divertirse y ser FELIZ! En un idioma indio, significa tu alma. Esto era importante ya que retrataba todos estos hermosos significados en una palabra simple de cuatro letras. Dado que estos eran valores por los que vivía a diario, solo tenía sentido que hiciera de esto parte de mi negocio. Dos palabras fuertes y significativas para hacer mi nombre comercial.
Soy una mexicana-estadounidense de primera generación y no podría estar más orgullosa de mi herencia y mi amorosa familia. Es una cultura muy divertida, amorosa y brillante que ha influido en mi trabajo de muchas maneras, la más importante con la vitalidad de los colores.
Mis padres llegaron a este país con un sueño y una pasión por una vida mejor y ahora es mi turno de hacer que esa visión trascienda todas las fronteras. ¡Significan el Universo en su totalidad para mí! Son la razón por la que sigo adelante a través de todas las adversidades que puedo enfrentar. Quiero ser una voz para las pequeñas empresas propiedad de mujeres latinas y traer más luz a la belleza de nuestras culturas.
Espero que encuentres mis piezas juguetonas, audaces y hermosas. Deja que sean un recordatorio sutil de la verdadera esencia de TI. Un ser superior y divino que está lleno de amor, compasión y bondad. Este ser es tu ser más elevado en toda su gloria.

Luna + Saya is a handmade jewelry business created and based out of Tucson, AZ.
My name is Marina and I am the creator behind Luna + Saya.
I began Luna + Saya as a means to express myself artistically and find fulfillment to my life. February of 2016 was when the idea commenced of having a business I could call my own. I was going through a tough period at my full-time job. It had become very monotonous and I could not see myself doing something that kept me away from creating. I loved jewelry and knew I wanted to create unique and fun pieces. I took to YouTube for tutorials as I knew very little in relation to jewelry making. Through my plethora of videos, I stumbled upon one that had polymer clay. From there, I knew the sky was the limit to what I could create. Polymer clay is such a versatile medium that allows for so much creativity. I played around with different styles until I fell in love with the modern and contemporary style you see in my jewelry now.
I currently run a one-woman show, this means taking majority of my photos, designing, creating, making, baking, sanding, and packaging all my work while working a full-time job (for now, ha). It is a heck of dedication, but find it beyond rewarding when I see the end products. It is a thrill and adrenaline rush bringing to life my vision.
My business name, “Luna + Saya” has a very deep meaning that is dear to my heart. The word “Luna” is Spanish for “moon.” It is also one of my last names, Luna being my mother’s maiden last name from her paternal side. My mother has played such a vital role in developing me into the woman I am today and this was a way to give her tribute. She is an amazing soul and an absolute warrior. We did not grow up with riches, but her unconditional love was far more rich than any material possession I could have asked for. She taught be to be kind, loving, humble, and when meeting someone, to always make sure you had touched their life in a positive way. There is nothing I would not do for my mother.
Luna is an energy and powerfully charged word as it represents the energies of the moon. I am a spiritual person and believe deeply in the power and energy the moon provides to all beings on earth. The moon is also symbolic of rebirth and change—we see this throughout its eight phases. This represents room for continued growth and change in humanity as we are ever evolving.
The word “Saya” (pronounced SIE-YAH) was a word I found while searching for another name to include in my business. Saya is a word that represents the emotions and values I seek to portray in my everyday life, not only in my business. In Japanese, “Saya” is a symbol of peace. In Turkish, it means to be sincere and honest. In the Tagalog language, it means to have fun and be HAPPY! In an Indian language, it means your soul. This was important as it portrayed all these beautiful meanings in a simple, four lettered word. Since these were values I lived by on a daily basis, it only made sense I make this part of my business. Two strong and meaningful words to make my business name.
I am a first generation Mexican-American and could not be more proud of my heritage and my loving family. It is a very fun, loving, and bright culture that has influenced my work in so many ways—most importantly with the vibrancy of colors.
My parents came into this country with a dream and a passion for a better life and now it is my turn to make that vision transcend all borders. They mean the Universe in its entirety to me! They are the reason I push forward through all the adversities I may face. I want to be a voice for Latina women owned small businesses and bring more light into the beauty of our cultures.
