What My Butterflies Are About

In 2009 I came up with the idea for God's Flying Flowers in support of the high demand I gained from my previous experience of selling my hand-made miniature creations on other venues. There was such a high demand for for the butterflies in particular, that I thought it only made sense to designate a spot just for the miniature butterflies, and luckily around that time someone told me all about Etsy.

Since then, I have expanded to 20 available breeds of still-life butterflies in 1:12 scale- the list keeps growing along with with my inspiration for creating them. My business had been on haitus for quite some time. I have since refined their over-all design, in excitement of having discovered a way to take such good resolution pictures of them to where the new detail modification is actually able to show in the pictures now!

To get the clearest idea of what a God's Flying Flowers still-life miniature butterfly entails, one would obviously need to see one in person for that, but seeing my feedback section is a helpful way to know what my previous buyers think about their butterflies. Remember however, while the details of the butterflies show up very clearly in the pictures of the newly modified versions of each of the breeds, I am always told how deceptively tiny the butterflies show to be in person, in comparison with how they look in pictures! It is very important to use care when handling them over a clean, solid-color surface.

A Few FAQ About the Butterflies...

What makes a God's Flying Flowers Miniature Still-Life Butterfly, as such a tiny piece of fine art, an ideal thing to purchase?

First of all, They have been commonly noted as the perfect gifts- they symbolize faith, growth, and the beauty of individuality. They are tokens of sentimental remembrance and new light, and they really get people talking when you show them to people!

It is important to remember that you can take it with you anywhere! They come in a sturdy container with a flip-top lid that fastens very securely, but is easy to push open with your thumb. They may also be displayed in a small acrylic magnifier lid box (available upon request) which is ideal for keeping it in a display cabinet.

Also, it is common for collectors of dollhouse-scale miniatures to add them to their miniature scenes- they can be easily adhered to most surfaces with a little bit of hairspray, although you may want to test an inconspicuous part of the surface first to be sure hairspray is a good thing to apply.

What type of magnifying lens do you use to see the fine detail when you're making them?

People tell me quite often that their butterflies were unexpectedly much smaller than they thought they would be, when judging based on the fine details shown in the pictures! However, I use no visual aid in making the butterflies- just strong direct light, and an extensively developed skill in visual focus as well as hand dexterity and steadiness.

How do you have the patience for making them?

No patience necessary! My tiny butterflies are truely a product of passion.

How do you position them to standing, when they're laying belly-side-up?

A few different ways.. A clean, round wooden toothpick works best to position under them and lightly roll them over onto their feet. They will cling like magnets though to dirty surfaces Since they are practically weightless. Another way to position them to standing, is by dampening your finger tip and touch it to the surface of their feet- they will cling and sit perched on your finger. It won't fall off this way unless you deliberately move it off. They should always be handled over a flat, level surface, where they can't blend in with crumbs or carpet shadows if they fall.

Why do some butterflies appear to have only 4 legs instead of 6, like other insects?

Many butterfly breeds belong to families who are characterized by a first pair of legs so short (such as members of the snout, hackberry, and brush-footed families), that they are only visible up close when they are extended for eating tiny bits of pollen close to their mouths.

A business of Custom-Made items...

Upon placement and payment of your order, I will contact you to let you know I have received your order notification. Miniature butterflies are made after the completion of my previous orders. After they are made, I will let you know your order is complete and ready to be shipped.

Please note that sometimes I have a high order volume, or several days of high-humidity (which prevents the tiny bits of super glue from being able to adhere to the miniature butterfly's parts securely enough during assembly). So in consideration of these possible circumstances, please allow up to 6 weeks for the completion of your order, although it usually will not take near as long to have it completed for you.
