About

Slinging drinks and making bling in Brooklyn, New York

Hi! My name is Leah and I live in Brooklyn NY.
I learned to make jewelry working in a bead shop, where I repaired jewelry and taught jewelry making classes. I became expert in all kinds of wire work and knotting. I also briefly managed the studio for a commercial jewelry design company.
All of this work has made me a wizard with jewelry. Teaching classes forced my to constantly re-evaluate and streamline my techniques, while repairing jewelry helped me learn how to make a product which is as hardy as it is fabulous. Helping bigger companies source and produce has taught me where to find the best ingredients and how to combine them to create a product that is as beautiful as it is tough.
These days, I spend my time tending bar, making jewelry to sell here, and focusing on my career as an artist. You can check out my colorful chalkboards at https://www.tumblr.com/blog/goldeneggplant!
The best thing about beading, for me, is the problem solving. Unlike most other art forms I've known and explored, beading deals with absolutes.
For example, this bead is round. This bead is 5 mm wide, flat, and purple. No matter what you do with this bead, these things are true. There is only so much you can do with the bead, but ultimately it's purpose is to be pretty. It's purpose is to make you look pretty. That's the end of the line.
And I love this! I never used to wear jewelry, but after I learned to make it, I was able to make myself things I love and wear every day.
In retrospect, I can see clearly what it was I never saw in jewelry stores, what never hit the right note in my mind. In that vein, I try to create jewelry that is clean, simple, funky, and elegant.
I do not design by trends or seasons. Instead, I try to create pieces that are as versatile as they are flattering. Simple shapes, colors, and silhouettes, combined with stones I love.
More than anything else, I try to design my jewelry by the stones. Each bead is different, and their shape and color dictates my designs more than anything else.
From the choice of gold or silver, to the shape of the ear hook, to the design of the clasp, everything I use is carefully selected to be shown to its best advantage.
Ever since the beginning of humanity, people have decorated their bodies with stones, shells, bones and metals. I consider it an honor to follow in this tradition.
Please don't hesitate to e-mail me with any questions, comments, or requests. I love a good custom order.

Shipping
If you are lucky enough to find something you love, I will ship it to you within a week of your order, so if there's any further rush please let me know, and I can rush it to the post office.
I store and ship all of my jewelry in pretty gold boxes. Please check out my gift wrap options! If you don't choose one, I'll ship it in simple purple tissue.
Refunds and Exchanges
I refuse to go through life worried about breaking my jewelry. Eventually everything breaks, and it's better to wear it and break it than to not wear it at all. However, the jewelry I make will last a long time. Longer than the jewelry you buy in stores. It will break if you try to break it, but I offer a lifetime of repair. If it breaks, just send it back to me. There may be a low fee for material, which will be assessed on a case to case basis, and will only be in effect for jewelry which is broken due to carelessness or exposure to conditions known to damage jewelry such as excess weight, heat, moisture, or chemicals such as chlorine or salt water. These costs will in any case be extremely low as I will be charging only what I myself pay for the materials required.
Regardless of the nature of the repair, I will cover shipping by providing any customer in the US with a self addressed envelope if my services should be required.
I maintain the highest standards of quality, and for what it's worth no one has ever needed this guarantee.
