In real life; Kevin was born & raised in a rural farming community located in Eastern Kansas. He is now resides in Colorado, living a simple life as a successful & professional tractor trailer driver, delivering food to local restaurants in the middle of the night.
While the mountains sleep, Kevin spends his nights off in his workshop. He rises & starts his day well before midnight. While sipping fresh black coffee, Kevin enters the still quiet night & takes a moment to take in the night sky filled with stars as he meanders toward his quiet & secluded, wood shop. Passing over the threshold, the brightly lit shop awakens. Intoxicating fragrances begin to intertwine with the sweet aroma of fresh sawdust interlaced with the smooth rich scent of black coffee. This combination of fragrances begin to awaken & empower the artist's mind, After a few moments of quiet solitude, he places his empty cup on the workbench. Reaching up toward the wood rack, Kevin selects a dark walnut board as the material for tonight's' project. It is not long before sawdust is produced as he begins working his passion. Later, as the sun rises, Kevin brings to light & introduces to a new dawn, another artistic creation in the form of a wooden toy.

Finished the 3rd "TOON" Truck (cartoon style) wooden toy trucks. The biggest so far. (22"). Made from Curly Maple & trimmed in purple & yellow accents give this cartoon toy a unique & fun appeal. See the other "Toon" toys in my shop.
This is the 2nd wooden toy in my new Toon" Trucks series. Expect to see more of this style of wooden toy trucks in my shop. Although they are somewhat time consuming, I have real fun making them. These trucks are getting a lot of attention on social media
What do I do with my odd shaped scrap wood leftover from larger projects? Well very little actually goes to waste. This Blue Racer is the latest example of some scrap Maple cut offs from my rocking horse rockers. Perfect size for these wooden toy cars.

About

Gramps Wood Toys - Nostalgia with "Moxie"

In the mind of an artist & why I make wooden toys:
Inspired by the pondering of imagination in a child's mind.
My Grandchildren are what has sparked interest in making wooden toys.
I love making toys & watching children play with toys.

Nostalgia with "MOXIE":
The slogan, & why I have it.
Nostalgia: A sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time.
Moxie: Vigor, Courage, Aggressiveness, Skill, & Know-how.
Adding panache or moxie to nostalgia is what makes my toys unique.
I do this in construction & design finish. I guess, that's just my style.
Passing along a nostalgic wooden toy, is passing on a reminder of our history & where we came from as humankind.
Built to last! That's how things were made in the past. And, That's how I build them now.

Toy making for pleasure, not competition.
There is plenty of good that comes from competition. It's been around since the beginning of time. But this is not why I sell my toys online.
Designing & creating wooden toys driven from passion vs. competition allows freedom of creativity in my toys.
* I make toys for my grandchildren.
* I sell toys because I have more toys than I do grandchildren.
* My wooden toys are individually handcrafted for newborns to adults.

Inside the mind of an artist:
I understand that my wooden toys are admired & sold worldwide.
As I am in my shop creating a wooden toy,
My mind ponders many things.
One area of contemplation is:
* What part of the world where this toy journey to?
* Who's hands will it be first introduced too?
* How many generations of hands & minds will receive pleasure from this one creation?
All unanswered questions.
But I like to imagine.
Maybe someday they will be answered.

Thank you for visiting & reading.
