The bullet shells, after having been buried for 60 years, are caked with dirt and rust. Some are destroyed and completely unusable. I clean each one by hand ensuring the rich historic patina remains intact.

About

From Toys to Pens - A Strange Change

Hello! My name is John Greco, Owner and Operator of GW Pens, formerly known as Greco Woodcrafting. I started my business in April 2008 making wooden toys from my NJ workspace and have gone through some product changes since then. Four years ago I started making pens full time and I haven't looked back!

Over the years I began using material besides wood, like acrylics, acetates, and stone. It seemed it was time for a fresh name that more accurately reflects my business.

It was a tough decision, as I had developed a good name for Greco Woodcrafting. I have a line of pens carried by the Philadelphia Independence Seaport Museum, and have been commissioned to make pens for President Obama and His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales. The good news is the name is all that has changed; the level of attention to detail is just as high as ever.

I've always been a bit of a pen collector, which has only further fueled my passion for making a true heirloom quality pen.

The stone pens I make are unlike anything I've seen anywhere else. I love being able to offer such a unique line of handcrafted pens. Of course I don't work exclusively with stone. If you have an idea for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, corporate gift, or just to treat yourself, let me know! I love working with clients on custom orders.

Right now GW Pens is just me, but I couldn't do it without the support of my wife and 2 children. When I'm not spending time with my family or making pens, I enjoy working with the Woodbury Rotary Club where I have been a member for the past 2 years and have served on the Board of Directors for the past year. Thanks for reading and please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Kindest Regards,

John

Greco Woodcrafting, LLC was founded in April 2008 by John Greco of Sewell, NJ. What started as a children’s toy company now has a variety of offerings, including pens, fiber tools, hand turned bowls, and one of a kind executive toys.

John originally took an interest in woodworking after his 7th grade shop class. After several more years of shop class, he went on to spend his Freshman year at The College of New Jersey learning not only about woodworking, but also metal and plastics work through their Technology Education department. John later realized he enjoyed working with wood more than he would enjoy being a teacher, and finished his BA degree as a Political Science major. Despite the change in studies, John never lost interest in woodworking.

Today, John works largely with distinct and exotic woods. Greco Woodcrafting’s motto 'Built to Last the Test of Time' is not only indicative of the heirloom quality of his work, but also speaks to the sense of design that is seen in all of the pieces. From the design, to the wood selection, to the hand rubbed oil finish- each piece is given individual care and attention through every step.

Custom orders of all sizes and types are accepted. John especially enjoys working with a customer one-on-one for custom work, allowing them to be as involved as they like in the design process.

Greco Woodcrafting has a corporate partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, making semi-annual donations to plant one tree for every five items sold. To date, 79 trees have been planted!

Some of Greco Woodcrafting's work is currently carried in the Philadelphia Independence Seaport Museum gift shop. The museum exclusively offers a 125 unit limited edition pen that John has made from dock wood that was salvaged from beneath the Walt Whitman Bridge.
