A lifelong love of art, color, flowers, photography and beauty have come together as Green Ink Gallery.
In 2010, I decided to broaden the scope of my exhibition art business, to include a line of note cards, printed in the same giclee fashion and in the style of my exhibition art.
I have always been fascinated with light, color, flowers and beautiful paper. I love handling the natural materials. I've focused on other subjects, but have always come back to the flowers...because I need Beauty in my world.
The flower or leaf’s interior space is revealed as light shines through in the photographic process. The more translucent the plant or flower, the better the backlighting illumination, so I look for that when I choose my “models”.
We grow many of the flowers you see and our friends are generous to let us pick flowers in their gardens. Take a look at some of the titles and you'll see friends' names, and street names where we've lived and where my gardens have been (we’ve moved around a bit in the last couple of years).
I use words like "dance" or "float" in the titles to illustrate what I see as the compositions evolve, and to portray the emotions I put into the work. Even at 5" x 7" card size you can see the close-up detail of the plants and flowers--their veins, water droplets, stems and leaves. They’re not perfect flowers, they’ve lived a bit and that brings more visual interest to me.
I enjoy and appreciate many artists and photographers and many kinds of art, but I always go back to Matisse, Gauguin, and Imogen Cunningham when I want to bask in imagery.
My art is dedicated to the memory of my mother, Ruth Green Hollingsworth and my company, Green Ink, is named after her. She had confidence in me when I doubted myself the most.
