Creating with my hands has always been a source of joy, and it is the also the way that I process and channel stress and anxiety. Needle felting is an accessible art form to learn, and many agree that it is also therapeutic and meditative, which is why I love sharing it with others so much.

It all started at a very young age when my mother would organize craft projects for my sister and me using materials from around the house and our backyard. Since those early days of childhood, making with my hands has continued to remain an important part of my daily life and my well being.

When I started Grey Fox Felting, I had been needle felting for several years. I was then a new mother, and I wanted to build a career for myself that would allow me to stay at home with my child. I realized there was potential to share my love of this craft by offering beginner felting kits and a selection of quality materials to other makers wanting to learn the art of needle felting. In my online shop and at craft markets, you will find my handcrafted needle felted sculptures, my line of felting kits, and the same carefully selected supplies that I use in my own artistic practice.

Over the years, I've only come to realize more and more just how important access to creative outlets can be for mental health. There is something magically transformative about taking one's anxieties or fears and channeling them into a creative process where beauty can emerge on the other side. Needle felting, with its repetitive action of pushing a sharp barbed needle into soft fiber, has a wonderfully tactile quality about it, and it doesn't take long to begin to see the results as the wool begins to take a new form. I continue to appreciate this privilege that I have to be able to access this art form when it is most needed, and this is what fuels me to find ways to share it with others.

My husband and I now run a storefront and workshop space where I teach classes (and where you might find me with my younger daughter, playing with wet felting when the store is quiet). I so enjoy being able to witness someone learning to craft something beautiful with their hands, whether it’s at home with my children or when I’m teaching a workshop. I continue to develop my classes and my line of needle felting kits so that I can share this wonderful craft with others who wish to learn.
