Announcement    Hi folks. Summer is here. I will be at my cabin as much as possible with the kids and new puppy. There is little to no cell reception, so checking my messages will take longer than usual. I've moved all my listings to a 10 day turnaround. Planning to get orders out once per week until the kids are back in school.

Thanks
-Matt

About GreyOwlDesign

Sales 13,971
On Etsy since 2008

A refusal to conform.

My story begins with a knowledge that I just did not want to work in an office. I spent my 20's travelling, working odd jobs, hiking the AT, and just trying to figure out what I wanted to do. Eventually I started working as a hardscaper, laying bricks, planting, building stone walls, etc. Nice hard work outside. I knew that was never going to get me anywhere in life and would lead to a broken body. So what could I do instead? Eventually my wife suggested making wooden signs with a jig saw. I made enough product and a decent enough display to miraculously get into the Burlington Farmer's Market. For the 1st year I worked brutal 80 hr. weeks. Hardscaping 40 hours a week and then working on my business at night, selling at the market on Saturdays. My products really sucked and my booth looked awful, but I was making sales and learning.
At the end of that year I quit hardscaping and took a chance on being fully self employed. It was rough for a while. But slowly and steadily my work improved. After 5 years I bought a laser cutter and that really changed my life. Instead of hand cutting everything I could have a machine do the hard work. After 10 years in business I have a house, 2 kids, a profitable business, and a happy life. My wife owns 2 successful businesses. It's still a ton of work, but things are starting to be less stressful.
I hope to eventually have my children take an interest in one of these 3 businesses and either partner up, or start their own business.

Most of my items ship the same or next day Monday through Thursday. I do shows on the weekends so Friday and Saturday orders ship the next week. If you are ordering a custom piece, or if it's a painted item that can take quite a bit longer.

That's basically true as of 9/23/2019. Things get very busy in November, and insane in December. So if you are in a big hurry it's best to contact me.
Additional policies and FAQs
Feel free to contact me about wholesale options. I have a lot of great Vermont items that aren't necessarily on etsy but sell great at the farmer's market. It's easy to transform my VT stuff into NY stuff, or Mass, or Maine or any other state or country.
