About

The Darkroom Connoisseurs

What started out as a mini gathering of three friends with different backgrounds but similar interest became a serious endeavor. A doctor, a photographer and an accountant met via an internet forum and quickly clicked.

Having a similar interest in film and alternative photography, they shared their passion and knowledge and eventually came up with the idea of F64, in honor of the 20th century group of photographers of the similar name.

They started F64 to build a community of similar minded photographers and to share their knowledge in photo and print making. As it grew, F64 began to hold regular B&W and alternative photography workshops, regular photo outings and is a permanent feature at many arts bazaar in Kuala Lumpur.

Eventually, many Etsy friends recommended to start a shop here and this is their foray into the international market.

All prints in the F64 Etsy shop are made with utmost care and quality to last for many years.

About us

Inspired by the original group f64 from the late 20th century, the name was chosen from the small aperture setting on a large format camera. This aperture gives a great depth of field, rendering a photograph evenly sharp from the foreground to the background.

Group f64 promotes straight or pure photography; which was at that time defined as,

"possessing no qualities of technique, composition or idea, derivative of any other art form"

Therefore we are here to keep to the original manifesto of the original group, who strives to define photography as an art form by simple and direct presentation through purely photographic methods.

By using black & white photography methods, means and techniques, we aim to build a community of similar minded photographers through darkroom and photography workshops, discussions, image sharing and support groups.
