Two lovers of history and literature making authentic feeling maps of far off worlds.

It all began in the summer of 2014 when I decided to make a map for my girlfriend at the time (who is now my wife); thus, my career as a quasi-cartographer began. Having received many compliments on that first map we came to the conclusion that this would be a cool opportunity, so here we are.

But it was not just the interest of others that spurred this idea, anyone who has spent some time with us will know that we are obsessed with Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Narnia, Game of Thrones and a whole host of other awesome things. I, in particular, have an intense love of history, especially the physical side of history. This is why I have a battle ready sword hanging in my bedroom and an ever increasing library. Our passion for history and stories finds a home in this shop that we are excited to share with you!

The process of making the maps starts with inspiration. Our maps thus far are recreations of our favorite places in literature. We use the maps and descriptions the authors invented as a foundation, in order to stay authentic to the original designs. Every detail is hand drawn; every tree, hill, and quirk. Once the details are drawn, Hannah freehands all the letters in the style best suited for the feel of the map.

After the drawing is complete we use a high resolution scanner to create quality prints of each design. The high resolution scan ensures that each map is exceptional and that none of the detail and beauty is lost. Every print is then individually distressed, which gives every piece its own unique look and feel. To give each map that old feel, we begin by staining them with a diluted walnut ink. We then burn or distress the edges to complete the aging process. Finally, we crease and fold the map so it feels as though it has been carried in war or on many adventures.

To ship the map, in the most authentic way possible, we wrap the map in paper, tie it with twine, and finish it with a wax seal. This helps to make sure that no one has tampered with the product and viewed the confidential materials that are meant only for you. Finally, I jump on my horse and take it down to the pony express or attach it to the leg of a raven to send it off to you!
