Announcement   Welcome to the artwork of Harry Leaf.
I was born in the Chicago area and moved to San Francisco in 1985 where despite the fact that art was always my calling I earned a law degree. Upon completion of the law degree in 1989 I immediately asked myself, ”what was I thinking?” and became a painter and sculptor.
The goddesses arrived in 1997. To this day they emerge from my head in every imaginable shape, size and color: each one unique. For the first time the art I made looked back at me, and for that reason I continue to create and have never looked back. The mermaids arrived in 2009. It was as though some of the goddesses just needed to be in water. Once they jumped in and started swimming, they too have never looked back
I individually make, glaze and fire each piece in my studio in San Francisco, California. My glazing and design techniques have evolved over the years. With the choice of a variety of different color clays and glazes, firing temperatures and new and unusual textures each sculpture has an individual look and feel all its own.
Each goddess and mermaid holds an object that gives it its special individuality. There are bowls, birds, cats, fish, leaves and rabbits, just to name a few. These creatures have inspired a new line of rabbit sculptures. They are a snapshot of what the rabbits are doing when they are not in the arms of a goddess or mermaid.
My ceramics have been displayed in shops and galleries across the country with collectors around the world. If you would like to see a greater variety of my work, please check out the locations page on my website, www.harryleaf.com, to find a gallery near you that carries my work.
If in the San Francisco/Bay Area you can visit my studio. It is located at 552A Noe St., San Francisco, CA 94114 (on Noe between 18th St. and 19th St.). No appointment is needed. The studio is usually open every day between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm and most evenings as well or visit my website at www.harryleaf.com .
Thank you for looking at my sculptures. I hope you enjoy them.
