Creativity is therapeutic
As a counselor, the more I learn about the brain, the body, and the heart, the more I realize how beautiful and complex our humanity is.
As many do, I found myself in a season of heightened stress and anxiety. I needed an outlet to work through a series of unfortunate events around me that made my left brain work overtime. I needed to get out of my head and into my body. One day my husband said, "You need a hobby. Let's go to Hobby Lobby, and you can pick out anything you want. Come on; this will be fun!"
I ended up on Pinterest while perusing the aisles at Hobby Lobby. Polymer clay earrings caught my attention. I went home and started watching Youtube videos to identify the best clay products, tools, and resources needed to become professional. Then I practiced, practiced, and practiced some more.
I will be the first to admit that my earrings aren't perfect–they are handmade. They are a reminder of my humanity, of what it collectively means to be human, and the uniqueness seen in our DNA. Each earring is different because I can never control how it will turn out after baking, which is okay. A release of control. An appreciation for imperfection yet still beauty that can adorn.
In addition to earrings, I love to use graphic design to create handouts and worksheets to help others on their healing journey. I was a graphic designer before a counselor; this has become a fun way to mix these worlds.
Thank you so much for your support!
