Unfortunately the item was found by the seller to be too age damaged to be sold and was very forthcoming in offering a total refund prior to shipping. I appreciated this very much, as it was destined to be a gift for my wife.

My love affair with vintage clothing began in the 1970s...

I will never forget my first view of it: a tall, long -haired lass sweeping down the street in a 1950's Princess coat; it was love at first sight.

I became a daily presence at thrift stores, scooping up peach silk nightgowns and raspberry tap pants from the 1930's, beaded 40's gowns, bowling shirts, skinny ties- all for a song.

So then I had yard sales in order to share my wealth of fabulous finds. And then, 30 years ago, came Halcyon. I found a little shop on a side street near the art museum in Richmond and a month later I was in business! It is wonderful to share my finds with enthusiastic clients, to find the right match for each piece of clothing. Like finding good homes for strays.

And now I, along with my wonderful staff share it with you. True vintage at reasonable prices is our motto. I hope our pieces will find a home with you!

To ensure your item is well suited for you, please read the vintage sizing information below and double-check to compare the listing size and your own size to get the best fit. If you are unsure and have a question about the size or appearance of an item, please contact us and we will gladly send you more pictures or take additional measurements.

Vintage clothing is cut much closer to the body than is modern clothing, which is cut loosely to fit a wide variety of body shapes. For this reason, it is important that you allow enough wearing ease to move comfortably in your vintage garment. Vintage garments should always be worn with care and consideration of their age.
Vintage garments can be altered to fit if your measurements are off by an inch or so. We are happy to answer any questions about any available seam allowances, darts, and hems before you purchase.

Use dressmaker's tape to measure yourself over your undergarments.

BUST: measure over the fullest part of your bust while wearing a bra.

UNDER BUST: measure around the fullest part of your ribcage, about midway between your bust and waist.

WAIST: measure around the smallest point of your waist where it naturally curves in.

HIP: measure around the fullest part of your hips. This is usually about 8"-9" below your waist.

SHOULDER TO WAIST: Measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lay, down the front, following the curve of your bust.

LENGTH: measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lay, down the front, to the point you want the garment to end at the hem.
