Announcement    ➡️Orders over $50 ship Priority for FREE (US only)!

I want to upgrade you to this service since the USPS is having many issues with delayed delivery and lost items. This doesn’t prevent it from happening, but it should increase the chance of you receiving it more smoothly.

✨Welcome to my shop, “HandmadeRetroTopShop”!✨

As the name implies, everything is designed and handmade by me. I LOVE Retro, so all my designs are based heavily on my favorite eras.

Enjoy looking through more than 400+ Miranda Hair Wrap options! Due to the high demand for my wraps, I add new options nearly every day. So, keep checking back!!

Everything you see listed is made and ready to ship. I ship daily, and I ship FAST - within 1 business day of cleared payment. NEED IT SOONER? Upgrade shipping in the cart.

USPS has been having a lot of delays with mail recently. Things that used to take 2 days now may take 4 days. If you see that your order has not moved in a couple days, call your local post office to help get your package moving.

Have questions? Just ask! I try to respond very quickly.

Custom Orders - I’ve had to shut down all my clothing custom listings and requests because of the overwhelming need for me to make hair wraps during this time. Also, some fabric suppliers’ stock is very limited, and if I can buy it, shipping takes a long time to arrive. Please understand that I need some time while my shop finds its new “normal” - whether or not this will include custom, I don’t know. Thanks for your understanding!

International buyers - because of COVID-19, I’m temporarily suspending all shipping outside the US. I will closely monitor and keep assessing the situation, as I want open it back up as soon as I can. Sorry for this!

About HandmadeRetroTopShop

Sales 4,047
On Etsy since 2015

I sew what I love - timeless, cool retro clothing to share with others.

My current love to create retro/vintage clothing goes back to when I was a little girl who was incredibly inspired by a WWII themed restaurant my grandparents used to take me to. The memorabilia, the music, and the fashion really struck a chord in me.

Growing up, art and music played a big part in my life. When I entered college I pursued a major in Studio Art and a minor in Mathematics & Psychology. After graduating, I worked in the Industrial Design Department as a Design Support Specialist at Navistar, the Design and Engineering center for International brand Trucks & Buses.

Fast forward to when I met my husband, Joe, in 1995.

He was in a Rockabilly band, which was an immediate connection for me....the music, the dancing, the tattoos, and of course, the clothing! I fell in love with him, and I fell in love with the whole style.

There was a period of time where I had to care for myself and my health above all else and stepped away from the large industry business world. Enjoying marriage, new health and having children changed everything. Once my boys grew old enough I knew there was something creative waiting for me to dive head first into. I just didn’t know what it was....but whatever it was, it was STRONG!

I felt like deconstructing clothing I owned that was ho-hum to create something new and exciting. Soon I found myself taking apart clothing item after item, even buying things for the sheer purpose of deconstructing and reconstructing - all done by hand without a machine. Without thinking about it, I was learning a lot about clothing construction and design.

My love for Retro clothing design, mainly the 1940s & 1950s, was always a reoccurring theme in what kept flooding my heart - as if it was just waiting to be realized and the sewing skills developed.

While living in a very small 350 sq ft condo in a converted 1880s hotel (I probably had about 25 sq ft of space to sew on top of a dresser, and I had to walk down the long hall to the laundry room to press open each seam!), I bought a used (probably defective😳) cheap, mini sewing machine and the amount of frustration was way beyond what I anticipated. But learning can be rough. I ditched the thought of using a sewing machine for a time until a number of friends encouraged me to try it again with a GOOD machine.

In August 2015, that pursuit became a reality when I bought a base level $25 “new” sewing machine from a friend and I hit the ground running!

As soon as I bought it, I knew that THIS WAS IT!!! This is what my heart had been trying to lead me to all this time. I used old sewing patterns from the 1960s and 1970s to start, adjusting each one to reflect more of my style. Then I got a hold of a few 1940s and 1950s patterns. I would take each one and adjust it to my aesthetic - making it “modern with a strong Retro influence”.

When my friends and family (especially my husband Joe🥰) saw all I was creating they suggested I try selling them. I thought (while laughing), “Who would buy what I make?!? I don’t even know what I’m doing!”

Well, the continual, strong passion to learn everything I could and create all the items I wanted to wear myself lead to my base designs for my shop that I still sell today... my Ava & Daisy Mae Halters, my Jayne shorts & different length Circle Skirts & my latest, most popular Miranda Hair Wraps!

With my heart racing and my spirits high, I started “HandmadeRetroTopShop” in December 2015. From that moment until present, I feel my soul is constantly fed by fulfilling the creative passion I knew was waiting for me.

This is my dream, and all my lovely customers are to thank for believing in me and what I create with love!

❤️Thank YOU!!❤️

Celebrating the female form, I make clothing to accentuate curves with the utmost comfort!

I love making simple, feminine tops, skirts, shorts and Playsuits that are reminiscent of the 1940's and 1950's eras.

Each design starts with what I desire for my own wardrobe. So, I create it, wear it, and love it before I offer it to others. I just want to sew what I love and share that love with others.

I try to keep all my fabrics natural cotton. There are a few cotton/poly blends, but these are kept to a minimum. Shorts and capris are made with a slight amount of spandex for fit and comfort.

I also am happy to say that most all of my clothing can cover up a two-piece retro bikini (like the Esther Williams brand or other basic high waisted bikini styles)...a must for warm weather months!

Keep checking back since I’m continually experimenting and making new items most every week.

Do you need something you don’t see? You can always contact me and I will try to accommodate you!

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Although I have done many custom orders in the past from little girl dance teams to full figured PinUp dolls, I am limited on the number of custom orders I can accept.

I specialize in creating designs that are somewhat “free size”, fitting a range of bra sizes and waist sizes. Each listing includes detailed information on sizing.

Please contact me with your need and I will let you know if I can help you out!

Care instructions

Almost all of my items have the same instructions:

Machine wash in a lingerie bag (or hand wash) in cold water (to prevent fading and shrinkage of material). Air dry (to prevent fading and shrinkage of material). Ironing can vary depending on the fabric - most use steam setting.

Since my items are handmade, and I use predominantly cotton, proper care will make them last and look great!

I include a handwritten tag for each garment or accessory with care instructions.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I wrap each item with colorful tissue paper and a foam sticker.

I include a handwritten care instructions tag for every item to ensure it’s lovely longevity!

A business card with my online shop name is added to help you easily re-order, if you’re ever in need of more of my clothing or accessories.😀

I also include a packaging slip with the item(s) and cost. Mark as a gift if you don’t want the receiver to know the purchase price.

I seal the item(s) in a colorful (polka dot, gingham or pretty solid color) protective shipping bag (unless an express priority ship is ordered, or the amount exceeds a bag, which then a shipping box is used.)

Sizing details

I probably get this question asked the most. What size should I order?

I don’t have different sizes (except a few of my shorts and skirts).

I design my tops in a way to be highly adjustable, fitting the range of bra sizes given in each listing.

My shorts, capris and skirts are usually made of a stretch cotton (twill, poplin, sateen or denim), allowing for a number of waist/hip sizes. I give detail in each listing for what waist size range they will fit.

NOTE: As with all my halter tops where a bra can’t easily be worn, the construction of them usually allows for perfect support. However, you can always add a bikini or bra pad/liner for added fullness, protection or shape!

If you have any sizing questions, please ask!

How quickly do I ship?

Once I receive an order, I pack and ship within one business day. Occasionally I even ship out the same business day.
