Up-cycling the past to preserve the future
Lighthearted themes, serious stitches.
Hand of Bela Peck offers sweet cashmere stuffed toys, whimsical wool appliqué, and primitive goods.
My work is the off-beat genius that results from growing up in a colonial Connecticut home with artistic parents who focused on accurate historical restoration with a sense of humor. Critters wintering in the walls were treated like house guests. Coins found under floorboards held heroic tales. And handmade dolls were prized possessions.
In keeping with the primitive tradition I use up-cycled fabric purchased at local thrift stores to support charitable causes, found items to reduce environmental waste, and vintage notions to keep nostalgia alive. I employ age old techniques in hopes the skilled artisans of the past will remain relevant in a disposable age.
I have had the honor of being featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Somereset Studios Prims, Stuffed Magazine and the Galveston Daily News. My work is available on Etsy, at Hendley Market in Galveston, and Space Montrose in Houston, Texas. I am active in art fairs and market days across Texas.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders
I accept custom orders. For custom orders of $75 or more, a 50% deposit is required at time order is placed, with payment in full due prior to shipping. Please contact me for processing time and costs.
Soft toys can be hand washed and air dried.
I don't do wholesale, but consignment is available to brick and mortar stores for cashmere cats and snuggle bunnies. For minimum order, pricing, and additional details please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All cashmere soft toys are made without a pattern and given the stretchy nature of different sweaters, I cannot guarantee exact standard sizes. Each soft toy listed has different measurements by an inch or two, so please note the size in each listing prior to purchase. If you need exact sizing for multiple toys let me know and I can create a custom order.
Do you have any more cats?
Always!!!!!! I supply 4 brick and mortars and my own indie market booth, so I am constantly producing cats. Send me a convo and I'll send a pic of what's on the worktable. you are welcome to your pick of the litter :)
Can the soft toys be made with baby safe eyes?
Absolutely and at no additional charge. Just let me know you need baby safe eyes in your checkout notes.
Where do you find all the sweaters?
My 2 pillars in creating are recycling and giving back. All sweaters are purchased at local charity shops that support community programs in the Fort Worth area. Each sweater rescued is one less in a landfill and that's just common sense goodness for all.
Every sweater is machine washed and dried to create a clean, workable fabric that is in return hand washable in the finished toy.
