A traditional Asian craft with a Western twist!
After living in South Korea for a few years, I finally had a chance in 2010 to learn the finesses of Hanji, sumptuous Korean paper made of mulberry pulp.
After learning the basics and techniques of traditional Hanji (cutting, gluing, etc.), it didn't take long before I started to experiment and interpret freely the traditional Korean patterns and unusual color combinations! No need to say that my choice of bold colors and unconventional use of patterns made my Korean Hanji teacher raise her eyebrows!
But, that's where the magic occurs: creating unique pieces that are at the crossroads between traditional Korean crafts and Western modern style.
Hanji has traditionally been used to create decorative or ceremonial objects. For me, it is essential to offer useful and practical objects, that can enjoyed on a daily basis. Tissue cases, pen holders, hair accessories, everyday jewelry, piggy banks, fridge magnets: let the beauty and unique character of Hanji make our everyday life objects irresistible!
Hanji is a fantastic material, with a richness and a versatility that is purely outstanding! An old Korean saying tells us that Hanji paper lasts a thousand years! I really hope that the items I create for you will last you a lifetime, and will bring joy, beauty and color to your life!
