Announcement   Hi, Hoala, Aloha and Welcome to Happy Home Design, where I create one of a kind Lazy Susan's, wall art and coastal home decor, one piece at a time. I am so happy that you stopped by. Come on in and make yourself at home! Everything here is my original artwork, made by hand with only the help of a few power tools. I love what I do, and I am excited about what life has in store.

I live and work in Spicewood, Texas. Spicewood is West of Austin, Texas and close to Marble Falls. It is part of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. My husband Mike, our dog Auggie and I live within walking distance to Lake Travis.

I cut the wood for my creations on the back porch under the oak trees. I have a small bedroom upstairs that I use as an art studio where the painting and epoxy resin finishes happen. I covered the wood floors in cardboard because I make a big mess!

If you would like to see me in action, we added an amateur video, filmed by my husband Mike. It is of me doing the torch on the epoxy finish. There are also several photo's of the process that goes into my work. You can see these images on the "About" page below.
This page also has different brick and mortar places that carry my work.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or would like me to create something special for you. I enjoy working with new ideas.

Thank you for visiting!

I purchased this for our beach condo. Janet was such a delight and answered my questions about color and design. I look forward to years of enjoying my new lazy susan.

Updates

Come and see me. All set up at Lake Sumper Landing, The Villages, Florida. Here today till 5 and 10 till 5 tomorrow.
My good old Bosch jig saw finally but the saw dust. I had it for about 20 years. Husband bought me a new Porter Cable. Early Christmas gift. It cuts well. Has a bit of cut line view obstruction because of a safety feature. I am adjusting.

About

Happy Art Helps to Make a Happy Home!

Hi Everyone.
Welcome to Happy Home Design....Art. My name is Janet Dineen. I began my Etsy shop in 2011 when I lived on the small Island of Port Aransas on theTexas Coast. It is located in the Gulf of Mexico, between Rockport and Corpus Christi. For the first 4 or 5 years that I was with Etsy, I shared a brick and mortar store front with several other artists. It was a lot of fun, and Etsy was more of a side job. I now am concentrating on Etsy more and more. It is my goal to make it work, and to make a living making my art. Every sale helps to make my dreams come true!

I recently moved; and I now have a home studio in Spicewood, Texas. Spicewood is between Austin, Texas and Marble Falls, Texas. A little town, on the edge of the Texas Hill Country with many miles bordering the banks of Lake Travis. I still have salt in my veins, and I am looking forward to the day when we can move back to the ocean. It could be any ocean. For the time being, I will visit often, and keep my artwork coastal.

A large percentage of my work is made to order. The listing photo's that are displayed in my Etsy shop are samples of my work. Many have been sold. I will re-create another original that looks almost, just like the picture. It will most likely be a little nicer. The more I make, the better I get.

There is a new section of my shop called, "Available Now". This is the section where I have listings for things that have not yet sold. Many of these items I will have listed for a short time in this section. They are items that I am making to deliver to my different outlets listed below, or to have for sale in a show. I am going to work at keeping this section current.

I have my work for sale at The Treehouse Art Collective in Corpus Christi, the Art Center in Rockport, The Art Center in Port Aransas, Island Made Art in Port Aransas, The RIalto Theater in Aransas Pass and Texas by Design in Rockport. Many of these places were hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. I know a few of them are still closed.

There are many steps involved in creating the items that I make. From the cutting of the wood, to the sanding and priming, to the painting, and finally the epoxy. Each step is a different job. Lazy Susan Centerpieces are my best sellers right now. They are fun and functional art, and can be used as wedding gifts, centerpieces, house warming presents, Christmas gift originals or a nice addition to your family table!

Mosaic Art is my other specialty. I have been making mosaic art for over 25 years. Mosaics take a long time, so I don't do a lot of them. Most of my mosaics are made as custom requests. I have six house number art plaques hung in Port Aransas on the exteriors of homes, and one in Rockport. If you would like to drive by where they are, contact me and I will let you know what street they are on.

I have always been creative, and have taken many of art classes throughout the years. The way I got into the wood cutting part of my art was my training as a trim carpenter. Back in 1997, I was working at a resort in the food and beverage department. I had been there for about fifteen years, and I was feeling like I needed a change. I had some friends that were carpenters, and I asked them if I could work with them. They said yes! When I finally got the nerve to quit my real job, I went to work as a trim carpenter. They taught me how to use power tools and I totally loved it. I would bring home scrap wood and make things. It was a whole new world with all kinds of possibilities. I worked with them for about ten years, until I moved from Austin to the coast. I am so grateful that I had that opportunity.

Although I do a lot of my work outside, I always need to do the epoxy step of my Lazy Susan's inside. I have taken over about 3/4 of our small house with my art
work. The back porch is for outside work; sawing, sanding and tile cutting. Upstairs we have two small bedrooms. One is my painting and epoxy studio, and the other is for drying, organizing, wrapping and sending. My living room has piles of stuff for art shows. I really need to consolidate my stuff. A free standing workshop is on my wish list.

If you are visiting the Texas Coastal Bend, and are out and about, you can find my work in Port Aransas at "The Art Center" on Allister, in Aransas Pass at "The Rialto Theater'" in downtown Aransas Pass, and In Corpus Christi at "The Treehouse Art Collective" on Waterstreet near the Surf Museum. I know the Art Center and Treehouse are open. The others I am not so sure. They got hit pretty hard during hurricane Harvey.

I hope you enjoy my work. Custom orders are always welcome, no matter how strange you might think they sound. I like a good challenge!

Thank you for your visit.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

Yes, I can cut the Lazy Susan's smaller or larger. I don't like to go over 24" when using the 2 part epoxy. I will make them bigger if you want only a varnish finish.

Custom and personalized orders

Yes, custom orders are my specialty. It helps to be able to communicate with you about your custom order. The more ways, the better. For instance, if I am in the middle of painting a custom color, and I think something looks nice that we have not discussed, I would like to send you a quick picture so you can agree or disagree. I have learned that little questions come up all the time, and it puts my mind at ease to know we are all on the same page.

Sizing details

I am willing to talk to you about different sizes. I try not to go over 24 inches with the Lazy Susan's that I coat with epoxy. The Stingrays are larger. The epoxy is very tricky to work with, and the larger the area, the more room for defects. I do my best, and work very hard to get a nice finish.

Gift wrapping and packaging

If you order a Lazy Susan, I usually ship them in a clean, new Pizza Box. It says, Made especially for you on the box. Under that, I write the buyer, or gift recipient's name on a tag and tape it to the box. I ship in plain brown paper.

I can gift wrap it under the brown paper for a small fee of 5.00. This will include a small, handmade note card. I can then ship it to your special someone. Please be sure to add the shipping address to your order request.

When your special someone opens the box, they will be totally confused and then delighted. You are the boss, I work for you! Let me know your wishes, and I will try and make them come true! (and I am trying hard to get good reviews! (I must be honest)
