Announcement   In this shop you will find unique hand painted Porcelain Delft blue Jewelry, wall hangings and ornaments and illustrations. All items are hand formed and hand painted in the traditional Dutch Delft technique using cobalt oxide and transparent porcelain glaze or tin glaze.

A couple of years ago I fell in love with cobalt oxide. The pigment is extremely strong and needs a lot of exercise and fine tuning to be able to play with it. Working with cobalt oxide reminds me of painting with watercolours on rough and absorbing watercolour paper. When raw, the oxide looks like a powdery charcoal. The vibrant blue colour only appears after glazing and firing in a kiln at 1260° Celsius or 2300° Fahrenheit.

I make and paint all pieces by hand and fire them in my own kiln in my studio in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.

I make new pictures for each piece, so what you see is what you get. The pieces are all unique. In case the first page is a group picture, the product for sale is shown single on the other pictures of the listing.

I am also able to take on wholesale orders. Please do contact me for prices.

Regular shipping time:
The Netherlands: 1-2 working days
Europe and UK: 3-5 working days
USA/Worldwide 1-3 weeks

I ship twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The shipping time is an indication, unfortunately I cannot guarantee anything !
I do not include any receipts or invoices.
Once the items are shipped they are out of my hands. Sometimes packages get delayed by customs, it does not happen often, but is does.
I consider an item lost after 8 weeks of the shipping date.

If you would like to send your parcel by registered mail it costs an additional USD 14,- outside Europe; inside Europe USD 10,-
Please send me a convo if you want to upgrade your shipping method by registered mail.
I don't send small parcels with tracking code, because that would raise the postage with an extra $14 and even that usually doesn't work.

About

Watercolours from the kiln

I grew up in a large creative family near Amsterdam.
My dad was a fine artist and had his studio at home. As a child I could join in at his drawing classes whenever I wanted and had all kind of drawing and painting materials at my disposition. From him I learned many academic techniques and I've also seen how he made a living with his art and how provided for his ten children. This requires concentration and great flexibility. How he juggled with creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit is still a great inspiration for me today.
At art school I studied graphic design and illustration. Later on I have specialized as an illustrator for children’s books, magazines and did lots of schoolbooks.
I lived in Spain for a while and there my interest in painting ceramics began.
After some experimentation I fell in love with painting with cobalt oxide on porcelain , a very classic combination that doesn't cease to fascinate me. Each ceramic artist will agree that this is a very gratifying combination. Every culture has its own interpretation of blue and white ceramics.
Bisque is the porous unglazed pottery that is fired once but not yet glazed. Painting on it in this stage has great similarity with painting with watercolours. That is why I like to refer to my blue and white pieces as baked watercolours.

I have my studio in 's-Hertogenbosch and do everything there, from forming the clay, painting, glazing, firing, photographing and shipping.
I also give workshops to small groups.
