What's the ethos behind your brand?

Our mission is simple: to bring quality hand made home decor accessories to the masses. We live in a society saturated with mass-produced products with no character and Northern House wants people to see that unique goods don't have to cost them an arm and a leg.

Where do you find your inspiration?
------------------------------------------------
I love the work of Canadian interior designer Sarah Richardson. She has a way of mixing classic and modern design in a way that I absolutely adore. She would have to be the biggest influence on me in terms of interior design.

How would you sum up your personal style in three words?

Modern, colourful, elegant.

What is your most prized possession?

I don't think I can go a day without my precious MacBook Pro.

Can you explain a little more about how to make your products?

It all starts on one of my various trips to the fabric store. There's nothing in my shop that I wouldn't be proud to display in my own home. After buying a fabric that I fall in love with the next step is to cut the fabric to a size that will fit the pillow form.

Each cushion cover is hand cut using different sized templates based on the size of the finished product. The flaps of the pillows are then hemmed and pinned to the back-side of the front panel. Once the entire pillow cushion is pinned it is run through a serger (or overlock machine for our UK customers!) to sew the pillow shut and prevent any fraying.

A quick flip inside out and our pillow cover is ready to be slipped on to most household cushions. All our products are manufactured by hand in our Mississauga, Ontario studio with foreign and domestic materials.

We currently accept all major credit cards as well as e-cheques through PayPal.

Orders will only be shipped once funds are free and clear of any holds or restrictions (PayPal e-cheques can take 7 or more business days to clear). If the buyer's "ship to" address is unconfirmed we may need to confirm the purchase via email before processing the order. This is for the protection of both the buyer and seller.

SHIPPING:
All pre-made items are shipped within 1-3 business days. Made to order items are shipped within 1-5 business days unless otherwise noted in the item's description. Shipping times vary for large and custom orders.

All orders are shipped using Canada Post and are insured for their full value. You're never responsible for damaged or lost packages. To reduce shipping costs for our customers orders may be broken up and shipped separately.

Items will only be shipped to the address associated with the buyer's PayPal account. This is for the protection of both the buyer and seller.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING IMPORT FEES:
Any fees, taxes, VAT, duties and/or all other costs associated with the purchase and import of any item in our shop is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Please consult your local Customs office for information on import fees. We will not make any false declarations on Customs forms to avoid import fees.

NON-DELIVERY / DAMAGE CLAIMS:
Northern House takes non-delivery and damage claims VERY seriously. We want to make sure that you are able to enjoy your order and the only way that can happen is if they arrive to you in perfect condition.

1) Damaged:
If your order was damaged in transit please contact us immediately. We need your full cooperation while we work with Canada Post. If we find that your order was damaged in transit we will work with you to have your item replaced or refunded (at our discretion). Damage claims will only be accepted within a reasonable amount of time after the shipping date. We may request photographic proof before opening a damage claim.

2) Non-delivery:
The only thing worse than receiving a damaged item is not receiving anything at all! While we know you may be anxious to receive your order please keep in mind that some orders may take longer than expected. Keep in mind that "business days" exclude weekends, Canadian holidays as well as any holidays observed in your country, province, state or region. Another common reason for a longer than expected delivery time is a package stuck at Customs. Your patience is greatly appreciated. As a common courtesy we ask that you contact us directly before filing a non-delivery claim with PayPal or Etsy so that we can try to remedy the situation.

We have implemented a system to help us deal with non-delivery items:
a) Items shipped within Canada we ask that you wait a minimum of 15 days from the shipping date before filing a non-delivery claim with us.
b) Items shipped to the United States we ask that you wait a minimum of 20 days from the shipping date before filing a non-delivery claim with us.
c) tems shipped internationally we ask that you wait a minimum of 25 days from the shipping date before filing a non-delivery claim with us.

This system is in place to account for any delays in shipping or Customs.

We will investigate with Canada Post and require your full cooperation during that time. If it is found that your item has in fact been lost and not simply delayed you will receive a full refund of the original purchase price as well as your shipping costs.

DON'T WORRY:
Keep in mind that your purchases are protected for 45 days from the original purchase date if you have paid with PayPal.
Refunds and Exchanges

We offer a 100% money back guarantee! New, unused and unwashed items may be returned for a full refund within 30 days of the original purchase date. Items must be returned in their original condition for a full refund (less S/H). Original shipping costs as well as return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer unless an error was made on our part. Items that have been used or washed cannot not be accepted for return or exchange.

Please email us at contact[at]northernhouse.ca within 30 days of the original purchase date to arrange a return.

WARRANTY:
All items are sold AS-IS, with no expressed or implied warranty. Remember that all textiles are subject to normal wear and tear over time and this does not constitute a manufacturer defect. To avoid damage to your item always follow its recommended care instructions.

All of the items for sale in the Northern House shop are handmade in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada with care.

We strive to produce quality products you'll be proud to display in your home. With that being said please keep in mind that these are handmade items and even identical items may vary slightly.

Any item that does not meet 100% of our standards for selling is marked "tester" or "imperfect" and is sold at a discount.

PATTERN PLACEMENT:
As most of the items in our shop are made to order we use stock images in our listings. Pattern placement on some items may not be exactly as shown. If you would like a photograph of the EXACT item you will be receiving please convo us so we can make arrangements.

COULOR REPRODUCTION:
We have tried our best to accurately display the colour of our products, but as all computer monitors display colours differently, we cannot guarantee that your monitor will have an accurate display of the colour shown. While we'll gladly refund your order if you're not happy with the colour we cannot pay for return shipping based on slight colour variations. If you'd still like to return your item follow the steps laid out in our refund policy.
