Announcement   Welcome to Hawthorn Meadow! Fairies, sprites, mermaids, and elves live in this beautiful world.

Queen Glimmer, the fairy queen and her father, King Thorne rule this little kingdom from the heights of the great Hawthorn tree. No one remembers how long the tree has stood in the center of the Meadow or how many generations of queens have lived there. Guarding the portal between the fairy and mortal worlds at the base of the tree is Wispa, the Gatekeeper. Pearle, Glimmers mother was transformed by an evil sorceress into a mermaid and now lives in Mermaid Bay. My collectible character dolls are lovingly handmade to bring the inhabitants of the Fairy Ring, Mushroom Forest, Shimmering Pond, and the rest of Hawthorn Meadow to life.

DOLLS

The dolls have polymer clay faces and soft sculpture bodies. They are 18" long and in a sitting position unless otherwise stated. That sitting position means that they are only 9" tall when sitting on a shelf or chair. That sounds big, but they sit comfortably in my hand.Everything on this site is handmade by me and one of a kind. The elves are made to stand by themselves and range from 5" to 7" tall. The head, hands and feet are polymer clay.

In the fall, I make witch dolls. They reflect all the phases of womanhood from teen to hag. Some are funny, some have attitude and all are dressed fully (from lace trimmed undies to capes and hats) and with lots of detail. Each year I make some a little different. Traditional is nice, but unique is better!

With the exception of the Tooth Fairies, these dolls are intended for the doll and fantasy collectors.I work on new ideas constantly, so check back often!

About

Welcome to Hawthorn Meadow where the fairies live!

I've always loved to sew and unleash my creative side through craft. On a trip with some girlfriends to Florida, I noticed that pirates were in vogue. When I came home, I decided to try making a pirate fairy doll, and, while I was doing this, I found myself asking, “What would turn a fairy to piracy?”

I realized I was telling myself a story, so I wrote it down. I created a world where the pirate fairy lived, and that world had to be inhabited by more than just pirate fairies!

That's how Hawthorn Meadow came to be. I created Queen Glimmer, who presides over the fairy realm from atop the Hawthorn tree in partnership with her father, King Thorne. Her subjects grew to include not just fairies, but mermaids, elves, and witches, and they all lived together harmoniously in my magical world. The tree stands in the center of the Meadow and a little door at the base is the portal between our world and theirs. South of the tree is Shimmering Pond where the mermaids and pirates live. To the east is the Mushroom Forest where the elves live and work and use secret tunnels to supply the pirates. To the west is the Enchanting Garden where the garden fairies tend the flowers. The Meadow is surrounded by a vast forest and the forest fairies are the guardians and protectors of the Meadow creatures. The royal family, warrior fairies and the members of the Queens Dragonfly Aerial Corp are all forest fairies.

NOTE: The main character dolls pictures shown on the site are the original prototypes. When you order one, keep in mind that they are handmade one at a time , so the faces will be similar, but I haven't got the knack of making faces exactly alike. Also, while the styles and colors will be as pictured, sometimes fabrics are discontinued or dye lots are different.

Each doll is lovingly handmade, dressed in high-quality fabrics and adorned with retro jewelry and accessories made from clay and crystal baubles. All faces, hands and feet ( in the elves case) are from polymer clay. The fairy and witch bodies are soft sculpture. Most are in a sitting position to adorn a mantle, bookshelf or back of a chair. The elves can stand by themselves.

I learned to sew by watching my mother and grandmother sew on the old Singer treadle machine. I am essentially self taught in using the polymer clay. Period costumes, history and fabrics have been a lifelong passion, so combining them to create limitless outfits for my fairy folk has been a joy.

Thank you for visiting my shop and staying to read my story! I know you'll love your Hawthorn Meadow fairy as much as I loved making it.
