About

Hearth & Hammer: A Labor of Love

Behind the Hearth & Hammer brand is us, Andy Kenney & Ariane Scholl. A couple of high school sweet hearts living in our hometown of Batavia, Illinois. Hearth & Hammer is a small business built on the values of wanting our products to be sourced from the USA and made by hand. All of our candles are made from hard work and a whole lot of love. Since the beginning our candles have been crafted in our home and hand-poured by us, each with a little of their own personality.

A wide variety of work gets done between the two of us. Andy, who works as an art director by trade, is in charge of the visual aesthetic, brand and packaging for H&H. Ariane works as the true visionary and is also the wickedly talented chandler* behind all our candles. (She also reads way more books).

Please know that we are truly thankful for each and every order. Support small businesses. Shop local.

*Chandler: 1275-1325; Middle English chandler candlestick, maker or seller of candles.
(The more ya know...)

“I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” ― Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods
