About

Snapshots & Hot Spots

Hi! I've always loved to create and have my hands in art projects. When I was a kid I'd create paper items to sell to my family out of my room, complete with elevator music playing in the background. As a mom, when I craft with my kids, you will find me creating with them as well, sitting right in the middle of glue and glitter with a grin on my face.

I first started my Etsy shop back in 2010 with photography, though I've loved photography since I was a kid. Photography has been where my creativity came out for most of my life.

In 2014, I received my Yoga Teacher Training certificate, and dove right in to teaching, eventually quitting my office job in 2015 to try on teaching 'full time'. When I was contemplating giving up teaching, a student gave me a candle as her token of appreciation. I remember where I was standing, torn between accepting the gift she gave me, knowing in that moment I had made my decision, and giving it back to her and running from the room, feeling like I was somehow letting her down in leaving the role as teacher.

That candle was pivotal in the next question I asked of myself regarding my career a few days later, "If not this, than what?"

I remembered the candle. And how much I love candles, whether it was making my own melted wax creations as a kid, working in a candle store as an older teen, or constantly burning candles as an adult.

Cue the light bulb above the head or, as in my case, the flame above the wick, and my next step was illuminated before me.

I haven't looked back and like the light the candle gives, each step is being lit before me.

So from photography to yoga to candle maker, you'll find all three aspects sprinkled throughout my shop. The names might be reflective of something I was taught through my teacher training, my pictures of my products are still my own, and I've never had so much FUN ... I love my job!

I find the beauty in almost everything, which is why I'm constantly trying out new creations to see what looks and smells good to me.

I hope you enjoy what you see as much as I have enjoyed creating it!

I look forward to working with you ... namaste.

I hand-pour my candles using all natural soy wax. Natural soy wax produces a clean burn, is non-toxic, and long lasting - made with American grown soy beans. The wicks I use are lead and zinc free.

While I smooth the surface of my candles after the wax has set, please allow for natural imperfections on the surface of the wax. They are minimal, if observable at all, and will 'melt away' upon burning your candle.

My candles are scented with fragrance oils and unless otherwise noted, candles are phthalate free.

I use just the right amount of fragrance oil in my candles to produce a pleasant but not overpowering scent.

When your candle has been exhausted, you can reuse and re-purpose it somewhere else in your home, simply by removing any leftover wax and rinsing with warm soapy water. The wick base will come off as well and any residue can further be removed easily with goo cleaners.

My candles are shipped to you in kraft gift boxes, sealed and ready for gift-giving.

Feel free to ask me questions on my candles and custom orders; I'd love to work with you!

Below are a few tips on proper candle burning:

~ Soy wax is a memory wax; have your candle melt to the edges of the container to form a wax pool with each burning, otherwise you'll get a candle-tunneling effect. I have found burning candles in 3-4 hour time periods gives the best outcome. **It WILL take a few burns with my masons and cubes to get the soy wax to melt from your container but have faith; it'll happen. :)

~ Avoid burning candles by a door, window, or other potentially drafty areas. The draft (yes, even the smallest one!) will cause your candle to burn uneven. If you notice your candle doing this, rotating it halfway should help to even out the burn.

~ Trim your wick before each use! Keeping your wick trimmed to about 1/4" will help your candle to burn longer and cleaner.

~ I hand-pour all of my candles by myself (except for when my kids help out!), and smooth off the surface of each candle with a heat gun. You may notice slight imperfections in the wax (a bubble, a small crack, an air pocket while burning), but no need to worry! These all are part of the labor of love each candle takes to make, and they smooth out as your candle burns with no need to poke around the wax. :)

~ Lastly: glitter. I love it. I use a tiny bit in each candle. It does not affect how they burn. The glitter literally sits on top of the wax as your candle melts, and is not drawn up into the wick and put into the air. However, if glitter ain't your thang, convo me and ask me to make a candle sans glitter!
