So quirky, and creepy-amazing! We have him on a shelf on our gallery wall right as you walk in the door, and he's been a great conversation piece! Everything arrived quickly and in great shape. Thank you!
Originally from North Carolina, I came to Philadelphia to attend Moore College of Art, where I pursued my lifelong interest in using visual media as a vehicle for communication. After graduating, I worked as an exhibit designer, graphic artist, and marketing specialist while creating other things on the side as an outlet for my overactive imagination. Over the years, I’ve explored different kinds of media, but inspiration typically comes from the same places: nature - both wild and contained, architecture, the human figure, and decorative patterns. Since I regularly travelled between Philadelphia, my parent’s home in Durham, N.C., and periodic visits to the Carolina coast, my work features many scenes from these areas.
During a study-abroad trip to Italy in the mid-90’s, I visited a number of Renaissance-era villas and was equally amazed by both the manicured gardens and views of the Tuscan countryside, and captured what I could in drawings and photos.
Currently I reside in southeast Pennsylvania, where I regularly enjoy the works of our local art heroes including members of the Wyeth family, Howard Pyle, Thomas Eakins, Maxfield Parrish, Karl Keurner, and Wharton Escherick, as well as the hilly landscape, creeks, and dramatic winters.
Please note that many of the original works were done before I married, so they are signed with my maiden name, Laura Silvasi.
