About

Henna Crone Crafting...

The art of staining the skin with a paste made from the ground leaves of the henna plant predates written history. This natural, temporary adornment has been used for centuries to beautify, bless, celebrate and protect the one who is adorned. It is said that henna has it's own "baraka" or energy, and that is something I truly believe. I have been an avid henna artist since 1999, and the practice of this ancient art has brought me more blessings than I could have imagined.

Creating henna designs on a person's skin is intimate, personal and deeply satisfying. I also enjoy the gypsy life of creating my beautiful booth space at festivals, engaging the attendees and adorning them with henna, packing up, and moving on to the next venue. This type of life is exciting, but seasonal. In the winter months, with less opportunity to do henna on skin, I became aware of the option of putting henna on objects. Imagine my excitement! The paste can be used to adorn candles, canvas, paper and wood, and it can even permanently stain cotton, silk, horse tail, and natural fibers. I now have a new creative addiction!

Everything in this shop is somehow related to the art of henna. Whether henna paste has been used to adorn an object, permanently stain an object, or the traditionally inspired designs are drawn, silkscreened or printed onto an object, the art of henna has been an integral influence! Even the yarn tassels, which I, myself wear whenever I set up my booth to work, have been indirectly inspired by my gypsy henna life!

I have been an artist ever since I could draw with a crayon, and a henna artist since 1999. I have experimented with many mediums over the years, but henna has become my overriding passion!
