Carrying on Family Tradition

Why did we name our shop Heron Manufacturing? We wanted to carry on the family tradition, so we adopted the name of the business my father started nearly 50 years ago. He was a craftsman, building wooden door pockets by hand. Heron Manufacturing disappeared after he died, so we resurrected it in 2012 when we opened our Etsy shop. Although Dad probably wouldn't carry a backpack (and certainly not a purse!), we think he would be pleased.

Today, we create backpacks and other bags just like Dad taught us -- hand made, one at a time. We handle every aspect ourselves: design, fabric selection, washing, cutting, interfacing, stitching, pressing, photography, packaging, mailing and bookkeeping.

The best part? Getting to talk to our customers. Our favorite ideas have come from you!

We accept payment through Paypal, which also allows you to use your credit card without requiring a Paypal account.

We also have direct checkout, which allows you to enter your credit card information directly at the time of purchase.

We will process your order once payment has been made.

Orders shipped to Texas will be charged a sales tax of 8.25%. Shipping fees are not taxed.
Few things make us happier than opening a package from an Etsy shop. Because we want you to experience the same happiness, we are committed to shipping your items quickly and carefully.

WHEN: We ship Monday through Friday. Although weekends and holidays may cause a short delay, we aim to ship your purchase within 48 hours of payment. You will receive email notification when your package is on its way.

US SHIPPING: We ship through the United States Postal Service. Packages will be sent by first class or priority mail, depending on weight.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We ship via US Postal Service First Class International mail. Depending on your location, this can take 30 days or longer to arrive. Please convo us before purchase so we can determine the cost of shipping and include it in your invoice. If you need an item by a certain date, please let us know so we can research different shipping options. Customs fees, duty charges, import fees and taxes are the buyer’s responsibility.

MULTIPLE PURCHASES: When you purchase more than one item from us, we’ll combine shipping to get the lowest rates possible. Please contact us before placing your order so we can adjust the shipping cost in the listings.

EXTRA SERVICES: Convo us ahead of time if you need an item by a specific date, prefer a different carrier, would like to purchase insurance, or add other mailing services. We will calculate the additional fees and adjust the shipping cost in the listing.

LOSS/DAMAGE: We have no control over what happens to a package after it leaves our hands. Please notify us immediately if an item is lost or damaged during shipping. We will assist you if we can, but a settlement is ultimately between you and the carrier. We recommend you purchase additional insurance if you are concerned about your package arriving safely.
Refunds and Exchanges
We want you to be happy with your purchase! But if you are not, we will accept a return or exchange if you ship it back to us in original condition within 10 business days. Please convo us to start this process and so we know when to expect the package. Once we get the returned item, you will receive a refund (less the shipping fee).

Custom orders cannot be returned or exchanged.
