About

Herter Crochet Designs: Ida Herter

Since I was a child, I have had a fascination in the needle arts, particularly crochet. After becoming an adult and mother, I quickly fell in love with the art all over again.

My desire to pick up the crochet hook again was sparked by my growing frustration of not finding a suitable hat to keep my little one’s head warm during the cold winter months. I turned to a philosophy that was given to me by my parents, “if you can’t find one, make one.” After a trip to the craft store, and a glance through a guide of basic crochet stitches, I had produced a suitable hat and was “hooked” to the craft all over again.

I was bit by the “design bug” early in my crochet career; It didn't take long for me to discover the joy in creating my own "yarny" creatures from the depths of my imagination. I very much enjoy designing critters to reflect my children's playful little souls and to encourage their own creativity through play. After learning how to write crochet patterns from the Craft Yarn Council of America, I was able to produce written instructions of the designs that I love.

I enjoy sculpting unique creatures and creating things with my own style. With the support of my husband, and a bit of hard work, my designs are now out in the world and can be enjoyed by anyone. My goal is to give others crochet patterns that are enjoyable to use and easy to read. I hope that others will be as satisfied as I am with my creations, and I hope that all of the little kiddos who play with them will be inspired to play with the full capacity of their creative little minds.

I am excited to announce that I have had the pleasure of becoming a designer for Leisure Arts publications. I am the designer of the Leisure Arts book # 6188 Learn to Crochet Toys.

Can I buy your patterns without a PayPal account?

Yes, you can! If you do not have a PayPal account, you can still make a purchase. When you check out, click on the PayPal button. This will take you to PayPal. Can I order custom eyes?

Yes! If you see a design you like, but want a different color or size, please feel free to contact me.

Custom made eyes will have a longer processing time so the paint has enough time to dry thoroughly before packaging.
