I made this necklace set for a silent auction at a benefit for ALS. It's a brand new design, and I went with it for my Turquoise Elephant set you can see in my shop.

About

The Beads Will Tell You

I started making wire crochet necklaces and couldn't stop. Everyone I knew got a necklace, and still they were piling up. I took apart a cache of old jewelry and used up every bead I had. I experimented with different gauges and colors of wire. Finally, I decided I had a product worthy of selling on Etsy, where I'd been shopping for years.

I started with around twenty necklaces and began taking photos. I discovered that taking a great photo of a sparkly necklace was as difficult as making the necklace in the first place. I took them over and over, trying out different backdrops and photo props. Even after I opened the shop and had everything listed, I continued to re-do photos. They gradually became good, but I never have felt like they show how beautiful my jewelry really is.

A friend of my son's asked if I did bracelets. Well, I hadn't thought about it, but yes, I could do bracelets. Now they are what I sell the most. A customer asked if I did custom bridal orders. I'd never thought of that, but yes, I can! So outside sources have definitely influenced the directions I've taken and the success I've had.

I've been asked how I come up with color combinations, and the answer is simply the beads themselves. If I'm ever stumped for something new to try, I just look at my stock and new ideas pop up. I also get inspiration from art on Etsy, and from color choices curators have made with their treasuries. I write down mixes I want to try and then look for appropriate beads in my favorite supply stores on Etsy.

Naming my shop was easy. I wanted a name that sounded elegant, could make a shopper a bit curious, and that also felt sweet and fun, and my grandmother's name popped into my head. I never even tried to find anything better.

I grew up in the beautiful Ozarks always wanting more art supplies. That hasn't changed a bit even though now I'm nearly an empty-nester.
